This article investigates the influence of socioeconomic factors on heavy drinking over the course of the week. As part of a randomized controlled trial, 1,282 job seekers with at-risk alcohol use were systematically recruited at 3 job agencies and reported number of drinks consumed on each day in the past week. Latent growth curve models were calculated to represent variations of alcohol use. School education and duration of lifetime unemployment were tested as predictors; sociodemographic variables were integrated as covariates. A weekly pattern was confirmed in the total sample: constant low alcohol use on working days, escalation on Friday, and a further increase on weekends. Significant associations between longer duration of lifetime unemployment and higher initial alcohol use on Sundays (p < .001) and less increase on Fridays (p = .001) disappeared after controlling for sociodemographic factors. Longer duration of lifetime unemployment does not appear to affect alcohol use trajectories over the course of the week.

January 2025

Imperial College London, Hammersmith Hospital, Hammersmith Campus, ICTEM Building, Ground Floor, Du Cane Road, London, W12 0NN, UK.

The psychological symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) worsen the quality of life of patients and their partners. Here, we report the benefits of a 12-week intervention using talking therapy (psychotherapy and counselling).

Purpose: The absence of evidence based general guidelines for radiographic follow-ups of pediatric diaphyseal forearm fractures treated with ESIN results in an arbitrary array of X-ray examinations. In most pediatric traumatology departments, an X-ray check is carried out 4 weeks after ESIN osteosynthesis of forearm shaft fractures to detect incipient consolidation of the fracture. However, the elevated sensitivity to ionizing radiation requires special precautions in the pediatric populations.

Therapeutic doses of efzofitimod demonstrate efficacy in pulmonary sarcoidosis.

ERJ Open Res

January 2025

Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, IL, USA.

Background: In a phase 1b/2a clinical trial of efzofitimod in patients with corticosteroid-requiring pulmonary sarcoidosis, treatment resulted in dose-dependent improvement in key end-points. We undertook a analysis pooling dose arms that achieved therapeutic concentrations of efzofitimod (Therapeutic group) those that did not (Subtherapeutic group).

Methods: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells incubated with tuberculin-coated beads were exposed to varying concentrations of efzofitimod in an assay to determine concentrations that inhibited granuloma formation.

Background: Core curricula do not include courses on how to find employment after hand fellowships. Little data exists in literature regarding job selection in hand surgery. This study's purpose was to provide information to future hand surgeons on ways of finding a job that meets their expectations and to elucidate factors that should be considered before deciding on a hand practice.

We investigated how health and wellbeing change before, during and after becoming a young carer in the UK and whether this varies by caring intensity, age, gender, ethnicity, or household income.
