Purpose: The aim of the present study was to determine which of the published anthropometric equations is the most appropriate to estimate body-fat percentage (BF) in adolescent swimmers.

Method: Eighty-eight swimmers (45 boys, 43 girls) participated in this study. Following the recommendations of the International Society of the Advancement of Kinanthropometry, biceps, triceps, subscapular, iliac-crest, supraspinale, front-thigh, and medial calf skinfold thicknesses were measured. Waist, hip, midthigh, calf, relaxed arm, and arm flexed and tensed girths were also registered. BF was measured with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) to obtain the reference value. Existing anthropometric equations were applied, and BF results obtained from anthropometric equations were compared to DXA BF results with the modified Bland-Altman.

Results: The Flavel, Durnin-Rahaman-Siri, and Durnin-Rahaman-Brozek were the only equations that did not demonstrate statistically significant differences when compared with DXA.

Conclusion: The present study showed that the best anthropometric equation from existing literature to estimate BF in swimmers is that proposed by Durnin-Rahaman (independently of applying the Siri or Brozek equation).

An increased renal resistive index (RRI) and proteinuria can predict an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) of various causes. This study hypothesized that the RRI and proteinuria interact to determine disease progression in patients with CKDs of unknown origin. : One hundred and fifty six patients (age 76.

Article Synopsis
  • The review highlights the significance of assessing body composition during pregnancy and its impact on maternal and fetal health, emphasizing the need for accurate evaluation methods.
  • Anthropometric measurements, such as body weight and skinfold thickness, are reliable, cost-effective tools for assessing maternal nutritional status and predicting potential pregnancy complications.
  • Various laboratory methods, including bioelectrical impedance analysis and ultrasound, complement anthropometric measurements in estimating body composition and facilitating early diagnosis of issues during pregnancy.

Background: With the rapid development of society, teenagers have more access to individuals with perfect bodies and are becoming more concerned about their body image. Currently, few studies assess body image and eating disorders comprehensively in China. Given the seriousness of these issues, there is an urgent need to understand the current state of body image and eating behaviors among Chinese people and formulate preventive strategies.

The effects of chronotype and diet on obese individuals have been reported in previous studies. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the Mediterranean-DASH intervention for neurodegenerative delay (MIND) diet, chronotype and lifestyle factors in different types of overweight and obese people. 1100 obese individuals participated in this cross-sectional study.
