The global re-emergence of syphilis is an exigent public health issue requiring both clinicians and public health practitioners to become familiar with the myriad manifestations of this great imitator. This report describes a case of an originally undiagnosed chronic oral syphilitic chancre, subsequently confirmed by both PCR and immunohistochemistry.

The diagnostic process and discrimination of mucosal lesions present a formidable challenge for numerous clinicians, primarily attributable to the common overlap of clinical manifestations observed across various categories, including infectious, autoimmune, connective tissue, and systemic vascular inflammatory diseases. In cases of mucosal lesions, syphilis presents distinctive characteristics that can help clinicians differentiate it from other conditions. The most common manifestation of primary syphilis is mostly a painless, firm, indurated ulcer known as a chancre, which typically appears at the site of inoculation, with enlargement of regional lymph nodes.

We report two cases of secondary syphilis with an isolated papule on the palm as the initial presentation. The clinical manifestations of secondary syphilis can be diverse, with a high rate of misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis. This article presents two patients with a purpose to alert clinicians not to forget the great imitator of syphilis for lesions of uncertain diagnosis.

Early studies attempting interspecies communication with great apes trained to use sign language and Augmented Interspecies Communication (AIC) devices were limited by methodological and technological constraints, as well as restrictive sample sizes. Evidence for animals' intentional production of symbols was met with considerable criticisms which could not be easily deflected with existing data. This clinical guideline was designed to serve as a hospital guide in the diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring approach to neurosyphilis, considering whether there is positivity or not for the human immunodeficiency virus. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted notifiable disease, known as the great imitator. In around 30% of cases of untreated disease, there is a persistent central nervous system infection.
