Magnesium amide complexes such as Mg{N(SiMe)} (1) LMgN(SiMe)·THF (2) [L = ArNC(NPr)NAr; (Ar = 2,6-Me-CH)] and LMgN(SiMe)·THF (3) [L = ArNC(NPr)NAr; (Ar = 2,6-Pr-CH)] are reported as highly efficient pre-catalysts for the hydroboration of a wide range of esters using pinacolborane (HBpin) under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, we have shown compound 1 catalyzed chemoselective reduction of esters in the presence of other reducible functional groups such as alkene, alkyne and nitro.

Protein fibrillation complex mechanisms led to an emerging trend in research for years. The mechanisms behind whey protein isolate (WPI) fibrillation driven by divalent cations remained still a matter of speculation. All cations (Ca, Fe, Mg, and Zn) enhanced the microenvironment polarity through π-π stacking, and the amide I and II shifts confirmed the fibrillation.

Fomesafen is a herbicide with long persistence in soil, causing damage to succeeding crops. Dichlormid is a widely used safener protecting maize from chloroacetanilide and thiocarbamate injury. We found that dichlormid treatment could restore the growth of wheat seedlings exposed to fomesafen stress.

Herein, we report a Lewis acid-mediated ring expansion of donor-acceptor cyclopropanes (DACs) to substituted azetidines via nucleophilic nitrogen group transfer from readily accessible iminoiodinane. This protocol operates under mild, transition-metal-free conditions, and showcases excellent chemoselectivity, along with broad functional group tolerance. We report for the first time that challenging alkyl donor-acceptor cyclopropanes can undergo ring expansion leading to aliphatic azetidines without relying on external oxidants or precious transition-metal catalysts.

: Postoperative recovery from general anesthesia is a multidimensional process, and patient-centered outcome assessment should be considered an important indicator of recovery quality. This study compared the effectiveness of intraoperative lidocaine and magnesium on postoperative recovery in nasal bone fracture surgery, using the quality of recovery-40 questionnaire (QoR-40) to assess recovery quality and pain intensity. : A total of 74 patients scheduled for elective closed reduction surgery for isolated nasal bone fracture were assigned to the intraoperative infusions of lidocaine or magnesium.

The use of magnesium and methanol in the reduction of various functional groups has been well established. In this study, we present a reductive deuteration system using Mg/CHOD, which successfully facilitates the conversion of α,β-unsaturated esters, amides, and nitriles to their saturated counterparts. This protocol achieves good yields and high degrees of deuterium incorporation, while avoiding defunctionalization in the presence of various functional groups.
