Despite recent advancements in the nonsurgical treatment for Dupuytren contracture, a number of patients remain poor nonsurgical candidates or elect for surgical management. The traditional McCash technique releases contractures while leaving open palmar wounds. Although successful in alleviating contractures, these wounds are traditionally large, transverse incisions across the palm. A modification of this technique has been performed that permits the surgeon to utilize smaller wounds while eliminating debilitating contractures.

Background: Phlebotomy can be an uncomfortable and even painful experience that increases in likelihood in patients who require frequent blood draws, such as those with cancer. The 25-gauge BD Vacutainer® UltraTouch™ Push Button Blood Collection Set has a smaller outer bore needle size and unique bevel configuration, which in theory should reduce pain associated with phlebotomy. Smaller needles typically cause less pain, however, they have a higher incidence of compromising the specimen integrity.

Background: Serum immunofixation (IF) is a common laboratory test used to diagnose and monitor patients with monoclonal gammopathies. Similarly, immunotyping (IT) by capillary electrophoresis can confirm the presence of a monoclonal protein (M-protein) and determine its isotype. The goal of this study was to compare the ability of IT and IF to detect M-proteins.

A mathematical model is presented to analyse the flow characteristics and heat transfer aspects of a heated Newtonian viscous fluid with single wall carbon nanotubes inside a vertical duct having elliptic cross section and sinusoidally fluctuating walls. Exact mathematical computations are performed to get temperature, velocity and pressure gradient expressions. A polynomial solution technique is utilized to obtain these mathematical solutions.

Background: Some cases treated with open palm technique need relatively long wound healing time. This study aims to clarify whether the preoperative lifestyle-related diseases or factors are associated with surgical results after the open palm technique for Dupuytren's contracture.
Methods: The study included 122 fingers of 84 hands of 84 consecutive male patients with Dupuytren's contracture who were treated with McCash's open palm technique at our hospital from 1980 to 2016.
