Biphasic calcium phosphate consisting of hydroxyapatite (HA) and β-tricalcium phosphate(β-TCP) is an excellent bone substitute with controllable bioresorbability. Fabrication of biphasic calcium phosphate with self-setting ability is expected to enhance its potential application as bone substitute. In this study, mixtures of α-TCP and β-TCP with various compositions were prepared through α-β phase transition of α-TCP powder at 1000°C for various periods. These powders were mixed with 0.25M NaHPO at a P/L ratio of 2, and then hardened at 37°C at 100% RH for up to 24h. Material properties of biphasic HA/β-TCP cement with different α-TCP/β-TCP composition were characterized. These cements were also evaluated with respect to cell response in vitro using MC3T3-E1 cell lines. In conclusion, mechanical and biological properties of HA/β-TCP cement could be controlled by changing the heat treatment time of α-TCP powder at 1000°C. In vitro results indicated that cell proliferation and ALP activity increased with increase β-TCP content.

Purpose: Currently, maxillary sinus floor (SF) elevation is based on off-the-shelf allogeneic, xenogeneic or synthetic bone augmentation materials (BAM) that are implanted via an open lateral sinus wall approach (OSFE). However, this invasive method is associated with postoperative complications caused by an inadequate blood supply of the alveolar ridge. Balloon-assisted procedures are minimal invasive alternatives with lower complication rates.

Calcium phosphate (CaP) biomaterials have been widely used in hard tissue engineering, but their impact on cell metabolism is unclear. We synthesized and characterized hydroxyapatite, β-tricalcium phosphate, and biphasic calcium phosphate composites to investigate material effects on NIH/3T3 cell metabolism. The intracellular metabolites were analyzed employing LC-MS metabolomics, and cell metabolic status was assessed comparatively.

In Fenton-like systems, a slow-release of hydrogen peroxide (HO) is of great value in improving the sustainable treatment of pollutants. In this study, calcium peroxide (CaO) was first synthesized by different methods, and its slow-release performance of HO was evaluated. Then CaO@PDA composites (referred to as CP-X, X represent the mass ratio of Polydopamine (PDA) to CaO were prepared by using a simple precipitation method.
