This study investigates whether lower self-regulation (SR) facets are risk factors for internalizing symptoms (vulnerability models), consequences of these symptoms (scar models), or develop along the same continuum and thus share common causes (spectrum models) during middle childhood. To analyze these models simultaneously, a random intercept cross-lagged panel model was estimated using Mplus. Data were assessed at three measurement time points in a community-based sample of = 1657 (52.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Duke University, Durham, NC, USA, Social Science Research Institute, Duke University, Durham, NC, USA.

Background: A growing body of research suggests a connection between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and prior infections, although the mechanisms are not well understood. We recently reported a significant association between a history of adult infections and smaller brain hippocampal volume (HV), a major biomarker of neurodegeneration, in female participants of the UK Biobank (UKB). Here we further investigate this connection, taking into account the rs6859 polymorphism in the NECTIN2 gene, an established genetic risk factor for AD that is also involved in vulnerability to infections.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Background: Approximately 30% of women worldwide experience intimate partner violence (IPV). Although as many as 92% report impacts to the head and/or strangulation that raise clinical suspicion of brain injury (BI), there are no evidence-based methods to document IPV-BI in this vulnerable population, no clinical practice guideline, and insufficient understanding about long-term risks including Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). Although traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an established ADRD risk factor, little is known about attributable risk of ADRD due to IPV in either military or civilian populations.

This paper addresses a critical gap in family research by examining the risk of families with young children receiving the Minimum Living Income (MLI) in rejecting targeted social interventions, also known as non-take-up (NTU). We analyze recruting process data from the first invitation to participate in a social benefit including the "Growing Happily in the Family-2" program developed in Madrid, Spain, to their written consent prior to its implementation. Measurements of subjective factors reported as reasons for NTU and objective factors of sociodemographic characteristics and detailed household patterns of prior engagement with social services to study NTU response were based on official records and project data.
