A design for a Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) setup for use with viscous liquids at temperatures of up to 300 °C is reported. The system response for iron and gold coated QCM crystals to two common lubricant base oils, polyalphaolefin and halocarbon, is reported, yielding results that are consistent with theoretical predictions that incorporate electrode nanoscale surface roughness into their analysis.

Various polycations and polyanions were sequentially adsorbed onto the gold electrode of a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring. The study focused on determining the adsorption kinetics, viscoelastic properties, and electroresponsivity of polyelectrolyte layers. For the first time, it was demonstrated that the structure (compact or expanded) of the layers can be determined by electroresponsivity.

Formation of Highly Negatively Charged Supported Lipid Bilayers on a Silica Surface: Effects of Ionic Strength and Osmotic Stress.

Key Laboratory of Applied Surface and Colloid Chemistry (Ministry of Education), Institute of New Concept Sensors and Molecular Materials, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an 710062, China.

Solid supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) serve as an excellent platform for biophysical studies. However, the formation of highly negatively charged SLBs on negatively charged surfaces remains a challenge due to electrostatic repulsion. Here, we study the effects of ionic strength and osmotic stress on the formation of highly negatively charged SLBs on the silica surface.

A comprehensive approach enabling a quantitative interpretation of poly-l-arginine (PARG) adsorption kinetics at solid/electrolyte interfaces was developed. The first step involved all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) modeling of physicochemical characteristics yielding PARG molecule conformations, its contour length, and the cross-section area. It was also shown that PARG molecules, even in concentrated electrolyte solutions (100 mM NaCl), assume a largely elongated shape with an aspect ratio of 36.

Hypothesis: The adsorption isotherm of alkanols at the haematite|hydrocarbon interface should reflect both chemisorption (chemically bonded fraction) and physisorption (hydrogen bonded fraction).

Experiments And Model: Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have been used for characterization of FeO|hydrocarbon interfaces with absorbed alcohol. A range of FeO-terminated surfaces, alkanols, hydrocarbons and temperatures have been investigated.

This study investigates the interaction of amino-modified starch nanoparticles (NH-SNPs) and unmodified SNPs with pepsin and trypsin and the influence of the formation of protein coronas on the release of polyphenols. We discovered that NH-SNPs bound loosely to pepsin, while they bound tightly to trypsin, by quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring and zeta potential measurement. SNPs did not easily bind to the two digestive enzymes.
