Spin-orbit interaction entangles the orbitals with the different spins. The spin-orbital-entangled states were discovered in surface states of topological insulators. However, the spin-orbital-entanglement is not specialized in the topological surface states. Here, we show the spin-orbital texture in a surface state of Bi(111) by laser-based spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (laser-SARPES) and describe three-dimensional spin-rotation effect in photoemission resulting from spin-dependent quantum interference. Our model reveals that, in the spin-orbit-coupled systems, the spins pointing to the mutually opposite directions are independently locked to the orbital symmetries. Furthermore, direct detection of coherent spin phenomena by laser-SARPES enables us to clarify the phase of the dipole transition matrix element responsible for the spin direction in photoexcited states. These results permit the tuning of the spin polarization of optically excited electrons in solids with strong spin-orbit interaction.

Spin-dependent charge tunneling transport of magnetic nanocomposites under alternating current or direct current has revolutionized the understanding of the quantum-mechanical phenomenon in complex granular solids. The tunnel magnetodielectric (TMD) and tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) effects are two critical functionalities in this context, where dielectric permittivity and electrical resistance, respectively, change in response to an applied magnetic field due to charge tunneling. However, the structural correlation between TMD and TMR, as well as the mechanisms, remains poorly understood, largely due to the challenges in directly characterizing nanoscale intergranular interactions.

Chiral perovskites, which are applied to spin organic light-emitting diodes as a spin-induced spin selectivity (CISS) layer, have attracted increasing amounts of attention. A device based on a thicker perovskite CISS layer leads to strongly spin-polarized EL emission. However, chiral perovskite films suffer from poor device performance due to difficulties in carrier injection and film quality.

Multidimensional manipulation of photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE) has attracted considerable interest due to its potential in a wide variety of spin-based applications. Plenty of research efforts have been devoted to transverse or longitudinal spin-dependent splitting; however, the splitting pattern that can self-rotate in a three-dimensional (3-D) space appears to be missing in literature. In this paper, we introduce a novel 3-D rotational PSHE, which can be realized and tuned using well-designed Pancharatnam-Berry phase metasurfaces.

Numerous theories have postulated the existence of exotic spin-dependent interactions beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. Spin-based quantum sensors, which utilize the quantum properties of spins to enhance measurement precision, emerge as powerful tools for probing these exotic interactions. These sensors encompass a wide range of technologies, such as optically pumped magnetometers, atomic comagnetometers, spin masers, nuclear magnetic resonance, spin amplifiers, and nitrogen-vacancy centers.

In Li-O batteries (LOBs), the electron transfer between triplet O and singlet LiO possesses a spin-dependent character but is still neglected, while the spin-conserved electron transfer without losing phase information should guarantee fast kinetics and reduced energy barriers. Here, we provide a paradigm of spin-selective catalysis for LOB that the ferromagnetic quantum spin exchange interactions between Pt and Fe atoms in fully-exposed PtFe clusters filter directional e-spins for spin-conserved electron transfer at Fe-Fe sites. The kinetics of O/LiO redox reaction is markedly accelerated as predicted by theoretical calculations, showing dramatically decreased relaxation time of the rate determining step for more than one order of magnitude, compared with the Fe clusters without spin-selective behavior.
