Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses a photosensitizer and light to destroy abnormal cells. Talaporfin sodium (NPe6) is a second-generation photosensitizer.
Methods: We evaluated the toxic effects of different combinations of laser and NPe6 doses on squamous cell carcinoma (KLN205) and sarcoma (Meth A) cell lines. The cells were incubated with 0, 5, 10, or 30μg/mL NPe6 for 24h. The cells were then irradiated with 0, 5, 15, or 30mW/cm of laser power, and 0, 1, 5, 10, or 20J/cm of laser energy. Cell viability was evaluated after 24h. We also evaluated the cytotoxic effects of continuous wave or square-wave modulated laser irradiations (2, 5, or 10Hz, 50% duty) on Meth A cells.
Results: The median lethal doses of NPe6 against the KLN205 and Meth A cells after treatment at a fluence rate of 15mW/cm and a light dose of 20J/cm were 18.6 and 5.0μg/mL, respectively. Meth A cells were more sensitive to PDT than KLN205 cells. There was no significant difference between the effects of continuous wave and square-wave modulated lasers on Meth A cell viability.
Conclusions: NPe6 PDT induced cell death in a dose-dependent manner in KLN205 and Meth A cells. More work is required to evaluate the cytotoxic effects of square-wave modulated laser therapy at low light doses.

An approach to the generation of frequency-shift keying (FSK) and amplitude-shift keying (ASK) RF signals with a diode-tuned Fourier domain mode-locked opto-electronic oscillator (FDML OEO) is proposed and demonstrated. We use a low-cost varactor diode tuned phase shifter to form a high speed tunable bandpass filter (TBF) to implement the FDML-OEO. When a square wave modulation signal is used to drive the TBF, FSK RF signals are generated, with the flexibility to easily change the center frequency and tuning bandwidth of the FSK signals.

Objective: Noisy galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) using weak random noise waveforms enhances postural stability by modulating vestibular-related neural networks. This study aimed to investigate the neural interference mechanisms of noisy GVS on lateral vestibulospinal tract (LVST) excitability.
Methods: Twenty-six healthy volunteers were randomly divided into two groups: balance training combined with noisy GVS and sham GVS.
The longitudinal relaxation time (T) of noble gas nuclear spins is a critical parameter for evaluating the performance of an atomic comagnetometer, significantly influencing the signal-to-noise ratio of the system. Traditional measurement techniques, such as the free induction decay method combined with the spin growth technique (FIDSG), are time-consuming for gases with extended T durations, such as Ne, and are prone to substantial environmental variability. Here, we propose the transverse low-frequency square-wave magnetic field modulation (LSMM) method for the rapid measurement of T.

Myosins are ATP-powered, force-generating motor proteins involved in cardiac and muscle contraction. The external load experienced by the myosins modulates and coordinates their function in vivo. Here, this study investigates the tension-sensing mechanisms of rabbit native β-cardiac myosin (βM-II) and slow skeletal myosins (SolM-II) that perform in different physiological settings.

Multi-phase systems are becoming more popular for applications requiring high power and precise motor control, even if single-phase AC power is still frequently utilized in households and some enterprises. While both systems have benefits over single-phase, there are trade-offs associated with each. Because of its balanced operation and effective power transfer, the three-phase (3-Φ) system is the most widely used multi-phase system.
