An efficient one-pot two-step indole-to-carbazole strategy has been developed. This transition metal-free methodology uses oxygen as the sole oxidant and starts from cheap and readily available indoles, ketones, and alkenes. The present protocol efficiently enables the assembly of a diverse array of substituted carbazole products with good regioselectivity and broad tolerance of functional groups.

Paclitaxel is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of breast cancer (BC), including as a front-line treatment for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. However, resistance to paclitaxel remains one of the major causes of death associated with treatment failure. Multiple studies have demonstrated that miRNAs play a role in paclitaxel resistance and are associated with both disease progression and metastasis.

Spiro skeletons have emerged as a privileged class of chiral carriers across various research fields, including asymmetric catalysis and functional materials, due to their remarkable configurational rigidity. However, limited structural diversity of spiro frameworks significantly restricts the expansion of their applications. Here we present a new class of axially chiral spiro-bisindole frameworks and report their first enantioselective construction via a chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed intramolecular dehydrative cyclization reaction.

Accumulation of ketone bodies in the blood or tissues can trigger ketosis, exerting detrimental effects on bovine oocytes maturation. Exposure to its primary component, β-hydroxybutyric acid (βHB), disrupts mitochondrial function, culminating in the excessive buildup of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and subsequent initiation of apoptosis in oocytes. These ultimately result in poor oocyte quality.
