Published: July 2017

Aim: To define the the role of small bowel length in development of SBS.

Material And Methods: Seventeen patients with SBS after small bowel resection in neonatal period were included into the study. Total small bowel length ranged from 5 to 55 cm (11.8±5.59% from normal length for certain age).

Results: Described small bowel length has high risk of SBS/IF development irrespective to other factors (specific segment of small bowel that was resected, preserved intestinal segment state, absence of colon and/or ileocecal valve).

Conclusion: It is required to perform further studies with greater amount of patients to discover exact small bowel length which is associated with SBS and other factors affecting small bowel state.

January 2025

Department of Geriatric Respiratory and Critical Care, The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Anhui Geriatric Institute, Hefei, Anhui, People's Republic of China.

Aim: We sought to investigate the impact of CpG oligodeoxynucleotides (CpG-ODN) administration on the lung and gut microbiota in asthmatic mice, specifically focusing on changes in composition, diversity, and abundance, and to elucidate the microbial mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of CpG-ODN and identify potential beneficial bacteria indicative of its efficacy.

Methods: HE staining were used to analyze inflammation in lung, colon and small intestine tissues. High-throughput sequencing technology targeting 16S rRNA was employed to analyze the composition, diversity, and correlation of microbiome in the lung, colon and small intestine of control, model and CpG-ODN administration groups.

Background: Classic Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL) is an extremely common non-acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) defining malignancy and its incidence is rising. CHL is usually present in the lymph node and extranodal involvement is rare. Primary CHL of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is exceedingly rare.

Background: Metastasis of non-gastrointestinal (non-GI) cancers to the upper GI tract is a rare occurrence, with limited cases reported in the literature. Recognising this type of metastasis is crucial, as it presents unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This case series adds to the literature by discussing seven rare cases of non-GI cancer metastasising to the upper GI tract, emphasising the complications and clinical manifestations.

Inflammation Targeting-Triggered Healing Hydrogel for In Situ Reconstruction of Colonic Mucosa.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by intestinal mucosal damage that exacerbates inflammation and promotes disease recurrence. Although hydrogel-based therapies have shown potential for mucosal repair, challenges remain due to inadequate targeting and low hydrogel density, leading to ongoing infiltration of harmful substances and delayed mucosal healing. In this study, an inflammation-targeting-triggered healing hydrogel (ITTH hydrogel) is developed, composed of polyvinyl alcohol-alginate microgels (PALMs) and a cyclodextrin polymer crosslinker (CPC).

PANoptosis is one of several modes of programmed cell death (PCD) and plays an important role in many inflammatory and immune diseases. The role of PANoptosis in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is currently unknown. Differentially expressed PANoptosis-related genes (DE-PRGs) were identified, and pathway enrichment analyses were performed.
