1. Two high-molecular-weight forms of renin (molecular weights 800 000 and 70 000) are present in mouse plasma. 2. The 800 000 form could be activated and converted into the fully active 40 000 form, by acid or limited proteolysis. The 70 000 form was activated without change in molecular weight. 3. In addition to its enzymic activity, renin was measured by a direct radioimmunoassay, which revealed that the current acid treatment of plasma did not activate all the renin present. 4. Renin is stored as fully active 40 000 renin, with a specific enzymic reactivity of 0.4 times 10(-3) GU ng(-1), in the submaxillary gland of mice. 5. Pure 125I-labelled 40 000 submaxillary renin did not bind to plasma proteins. However, by changing the tertiary structure of renin, it was bound to some of the plasma protease inhibitors; alpha2-macroglobulin, inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor and alpha2-antithrombin. It was also bound to alpha1- and beta1-lipoprotein, albumin and an unidentified plasma protein. No binding was seen to more than 50 other studied plasma proteins.

Department of Pathology and Medical Biology, University Medical Center Groningen, Groningen, the Netherlands; Department of Pathology, Amsterdam University Medical Center, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Electronic address:

Fibro-osseous tumors of the craniofacial bones are a heterogeneous group of lesions comprising cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD), cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF), juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma (JTOF), psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (PsOF), fibrous dysplasia (FD), and low-grade osteosarcoma (LGOS) with overlapping clinicopathological features. However, their clinical behavior and treatment differ significantly, underlining the need for accurate diagnosis. Molecular diagnostic markers exist for subsets of these tumors, including GNAS mutations in FD, SATB2 fusions in PsOF, mutations involving the RAS-MAPK signaling pathway in COD, and MDM2 amplification in LGOS.

Necroptosis is a regulated form of cell death implicated in several pathological conditions, including viral infections. In this study, we investigated the expression and correlation of necroptosis markers MLKL, RIP1 and RIP3 in human liver tissue from fatal cases of yellow fever (YF) using immunohistochemistry (IHC). The liver samples were obtained from 21 YF-positive individuals and five flavivirus-negative controls with preserved liver parenchymal architecture.

Use of Relay Method for Enhancing Comb Construction by Utilizing .

Insects

January 2025

Yunnan Provincial Engineering and Research Center for Sustainable Utilization of Honeybee Resources, Eastern Bee Research Institute, College of Animal Science and Technology, Yunnan Agricultural University, Kunming 650201, China.

Italian honey bees (IHBs, ) exhibit superior comb-building abilities compared with Chinese honey bees (CHBs, ), which often fail to fully utilize wax foundations, resulting in incomplete comb structures. The present study aimed to accelerate comb construction in CHB colonies using IHBs. In the experiment, IHB colonies, each with approximately 42,000 adult workers, required over four hours to construct a semi-drawn comb on CHB wax foundations.

It has been known since the early days of the discovery of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) that there were large species differences in susceptibility to AFB1. It was also evident early on that AFB1 itself was not toxic but required bioactivation to a reactive form. Over the past 60 years there have been thousands of studies to delineate the role of ~10 specific biotransformation pathways of AFB1, both phase I (oxidation, reduction) and phase II (hydrolysis, conjugation, secondary oxidations, and reductions of phase I metabolites).

, the grey mould fungus affecting over 1400 plant species, employs infection cushion (IC), a branched and claw-like structure formed by mycelia, as a critical strategy to breach host surface barriers. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying IC formation remain largely unexplored. In this study, we utilized a forward genetics approach to establish a large T-DNA tagged population of , which contained 14,000 transformants.
