Background: It is still undecided if endoscopic laser surgery or radiotherapy is the preferable treatment in extended T1 and limited T2 glottic tumors. Health utilities assessed from patients can aid in decision-making.
Methods: Patients treated for extended T1 or limited T2 glottic carcinoma by laser surgery (n = 12) or radiotherapy (n = 14) assigned health utilities using a visual analog scale (VAS), time tradeoff (TTO) technique and scored their voice handicap using the Voice Handicap Index (VHI).
Results: VAS and TTO scores were slightly lower for the laser group compared to the radiotherapy group, however, not significantly so. The VHI showed a correlation with the VAS score, which was very low in both groups and can be considered (near) normal.
Conclusion: Patients show no clear preference for the outcomes of laser surgery or radiotherapy from a quality of life (QOL) or voice handicap point of view. These data can now be incorporated into decision-making models. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Head Neck, 2017 © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Head Neck 39: 779-785, 2017.

Large-scale and detailed analyses of activity in the United States (US) remain limited. In this work, we leveraged the comprehensive wearable, demographic, and survey data from the All of Us Research Program, the largest and most diverse population health study in the US to date, to apply and extend the previous global findings on activity inequality within the context of the US. We found that daily steps differed by sex at birth, age, body characteristics, geography, and built environment.

Background: The severity of recent Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemics has revealed the importance of development of inoculation strategies in case of limited vaccine availability. Authorities have implemented inoculation strategies based on perceived risk factors such as age and existence of other chronic health conditions for survivability from the disease. However, various other factors can be considered for identifying the preferred inoculation strategies depending on the vaccine availability and disease spread levels.

Food freshness monitoring and volatile amine detection are key to food safety. In this study, we demonstrated the applicability of mixed-valence rhenium oxide quantum dots (MV-ReOQDs), synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of α-cyclodextrin and rhenium ion precursors, in triethylamine (TEA) sensing. Spectroscopic correlation techniques showed that the developed MV-ReOQDs possessed mixed-valent rhenium, α-cyclodextrin as capped ligand, partially carbonized surface, and amorphous phase structure.

Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) detection receives much attention since it is used as an ideal biomarker for quantitative assessment of ovarian reserve. The present study proposed a first report on the use of MOF-on-MOF as an electrochemical sensor for recognizing AMH in buffer and serum media. The MOF-on-MOF, MIL-88 B@UiO66NH was synthesized by the internal extended growth method (IEGM) involving MIL-88 B on UiO66NH by in situ method for the first time.

There are differing opinions in the literature regarding the cardiovascular safety of long-term methylphenidate use. Studies suggest that the drug may increase the risk of hypertension, myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmia, sudden cardiac death, cardiomyopathy, heart failure (HF), pulmonary hypertension, and stroke.
