The synthesis and structural characterization, both in solution by means of H and P NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies and in the solid state by X-ray diffraction on single crystal, of a series of gallium(III) and indium(III) meso-mono(diethoxyphosphoryl)porphyrins bearing different peripheral substituents as well as the corresponding monoesters and phosphonic acids are reported. This work describes the first example of the X-ray structure of a self-assembled dimer formed via strong binding between the oxygen atom of the phosphonate substituent and the gallium(III) cations of adjacent porphyrin molecules [Ga-O = 1.9708(13) Å].

The aim of this work is to explore a new library of coordination compounds for medicinal applications. Gallium is known for its various applications in this field. Presently, indium is not particularly important in medicine, but it shares a lot of chemical traits with its above-mentioned lighter companion, gallium, and is also used in radio imaging.

The semiconductor manufacturing sector plans to introduce III/V film structures (eg, gallium arsenide (GaAs), indium arsenide (InAs) onto silicon wafers due to their high electron mobility and low power consumption. Aqueous solutions generated during chemical and mechanical planarization of silicon wafers can contain a mixture of metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) and soluble indium, gallium, and arsenic. In this work, the cytotoxicity induced by Ga- and In-based NPs (GaAs, InAs, GaO, InO) and soluble III-V salts on human bronchial epithelial cells (16HBE14o-) was evaluated using a cell impedance real-time cell analysis (RTCA) system.

Ionic liquid (IL) chelate extraction behavior of trivalent Group 13 metals including aluminum(III), gallium(III) and indium(III) with 8-quinolinol (HQ) was investigated using three 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (CmimTfN, n = 2, 4 and 8) ILs. Although the three extraction systems showed similar extraction selectivity among the metals, the extractability order for the metals among the extraction systems was CmimTfN > CmimTfN > CmimTfN, which was the same as the order of hydrophobicity in the IL cation. Only the neutral 1:3 complex species was extracted in use of more-hydrophobic CmimTfN, whereas use of less-hydrophobic CmimTfN and CmimTfN resulted in competitive extraction of neutral 1:3 and cationic 1:2 complexes.

Combustion synthesis of semiconducting amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide IGZO (In:Ga:Zn, 7:1:1.5) thin films was carried out using urea nitrate precursor compounds of indium(III), gallium(III) and zinc(II). This approach provides further understanding towards the oxide formation process under a moderate temperature regime by employment of well-defined coordination compounds.
