Determining the optimal antibiotic duration for skin and soft tissue infections.

Curr Opin Infect Dis

January 2025

Department of Medicine, Clínica Rotger Quironsalud, Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Purpose Of Review: Optimal duration of therapy in SSTIs - a heterogeneous group of infections - remains unknown. The advances in knowledge of antibiotic duration of treatment in selected SSTIs that can impact clinical practice and published in the last 18 months are reviewed.

Recent Findings: Recent evidence indicates that few patients receive guideline concordant empiric antibiotics and appropriate duration in the United States, although this likely can be extrapolated to other countries.

Recognizing drivers' sleep onset by detecting slow eye movement using a parallel multimodal one-dimensional convolutional neural network.

Comput Methods Biomech Biomed Engin

January 2025

School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Aliyun School of Big Data, Changzhou University, Changzhou, P.R. China.

Slow eye movements (SEMs) are a reliable physiological marker of drivers' sleep onset, often accompanied by EEG alpha wave attenuation. A parallel multimodal 1D convolutional neural network (PM-1D-CNN) model is proposed to classify SEMs. The model uses two parallel 1D-CNN blocks to extract features from EOG and EEG signals, which are then fused and fed into fully connected layers for classification.

Transitioning from perceived stress to mental health: The mediating role of self-control in a longitudinal investigation with MRI scans.

Int J Clin Health Psychol

January 2025

Faculty of Psychology, MOE Key Laboratory of Cognition and Personality, Southwest University, Chongqing, 400715 China.

Background: The neural mechanisms and long-term effects of perceived stress (PS) and self-control (SC) on mental health (MH) are not fully understood. This study seeks to investigate the influence of PS and SC on MH and to identify their neural correlates using fMRI.

Methods: A total of 817 college students participated in behavioral assessments, including the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Self-Control Scale (SCS), and Mental Health Continuum Short Form (MHC-SF).

Associations between serum total bilirubin and overactive bladder from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

January 2025

Department of Urology, Affiliated Yancheng Hospital, School of Medicine, Southeast University, Yancheng, Jiangsu, China.

Background: The relationship between serum total bilirubin (STB) concentrations and the risk of overactive bladder (OAB) remains uncertain. This study aims to explore the potential connection between STB and OAB.

Method: We utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database for the years 2001-2020.

Understanding the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) mechanism and accurately characterizing the reaction interface are essential for improving fuel cell efficiency. We developed an active learning framework combining machine learning force fields and enhanced sampling to explore the dynamics and kinetics of the ORR on Fe-N/C using a fully explicit solvent model. Different possible reaction paths have been explored and the O adsorption process is confirmed as the rate-determining step of the ORR at the Fe-N/C-water interface, which needs to overcome a free energy barrier of 0.
