To fully understand the radiation effects of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki among the survivors, radiation from neutron-induced radioisotopes in soil and other materials should be considered in addition to the initial radiation directly received from the bombs. This might be important for evaluating the radiation risks to the people who moved to these cities soon after the detonations and probably inhaled activated radioactive "dust." Manganese-56 is known to be one of the dominant radioisotopes produced in soil by neutrons. Due to its short physical half-life, Mn emits residual radiation during the first hours after explosion. Hence, the biological effects of internal exposure of Wistar rats to Mn were investigated in the present study. MnO powder was activated by a neutron beam to produce radioactive Mn. Rats were divided into four groups: those exposed to Mn, to non-radioactive Mn, to Co γ rays (2 Gy, whole body), and those not exposed to any additional radiation (control). On days 3, 14, and 60 after exposure, the animals were killed and major organs were dissected and subjected to histopathological analysis. As described in more detail by an accompanying publication, the highest internal radiation dose was observed in the digestive system of the rats, followed by the lungs. It was found that the number of mitotic cells increased in the small intestine on day 3 after Mn and Co exposure, and this change persisted only in Mn-exposed animals. Lung tissue was severely damaged only by exposure to Mn, despite a rather low radiation dose (less than 0.1 Gy). These data suggest that internal exposure to Mn has a significant biological impact on the lungs and small intestine.

Background: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) are increasingly being used for the management of diabetes mellitus and obesity. We sought to define the impact of preoperative GLP-1RA use on outcomes following major surgical procedures.
Methods: Patients who underwent a major surgical procedure between 2013 and 2021 were identified using the IBM MarketScan database.

Background: Adequate intake of vitamin D through diet may offer benefits in terms of body composition.
Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the longitudinal relationship between dietary vitamin D intake and changes in body composition in older adults over one and three years under the context of a weight loss and lifestyle behavioral intervention.
Design: Longitudinal study.
Background: Postradiotherapy nasopharyngeal necrosis with granulation mass (PRNN-GM) is a rare subtype of postradiotherapy nasopharyngeal necrosis (PRNN). It is characterized by the formation of isolated granulomatous tissue masses or masses combined with PRNN. However, the relationship between clinical features and survival outcomes in PRNN-GM remains unclear.

Cement dust is a primary contributor to air pollution and is responsible for causing numerous respiratory diseases. The impact of cement dust exposure on the respiratory health of residents is increasing owing to the demand for construction associated with urbanization. Long-term inhalation of cement dust leads to a reduction in lung function, alterations in airway structure, increased inhalation and exhalation resistance, and heightened work of breath.

Objective: The Adult Scale/National Stressful Events Survey Short Scale (NSESSS) is an emerging brief screening measure for the severity of Acute Stress Symptoms based on the of acute stress disorder (ASD). Scant information is known about the NSESSS's psychometric properties among different cultures or populations exposed to an ongoing trauma and displacement. Therefore, the present study aimed to (a) assess for the first time the psychometric properties and construct validity of the Hebrew version of NSESSS in an internally displaced population following the massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023; and (b) assess the possible risk and protective predictors of ASD according to sociodemographic characteristics, types of trauma exposure, absence of basic needs, and social support.
