Background And Aims: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) increases intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay, ICU mortality, the number of ventilator days, and costs. We implemented a VAP bundle and investigated its efficacy on prevention.

Materials And Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015 in a 12-bed multidisciplinary ICU. The bundle was implemented on July 02, 2015. Comparative analysis was performed before and after the implementation of the bundle. The compliance of the nurses was also studied.

Results: The incidence of VAP was 21.5/1,000 ventilator days (95% CI: 14.17-31.10) in the first phase and 12.0/1,000 ventilator days (95% CI: 7.2-19.49) in the second phase. Relative risk reduction was 44% (95% CI: -0.5 to 0.98). Most common bacteria identified during the first phase were , , and ; and in the second phase , , and were identified. Significant improvement was achieved in the head-of-bed elevation ( = 0.004), oral care ( = 0.01), hand hygiene ( < 0.001), endotracheal suctioning ( = 0.004), and removal of condensate ( = 0.043).

Discussion: The incidence of VAP showed tendency for reduction. The prevalence of nursing-dependent bacteria decreased and compliance in following prevention methods increased.

Conclusion: These results underline the importance of education of prevention methods.

Objective: Frailty has become an increasingly recognized perioperative risk stratification tool. While frailty has been strongly correlated with worsening surgical outcomes, the individual determinants of frailty have rarely been investigated in the setting of aortic disease. The aim of this study was to examine the determinants of an 11-factor modified frailty index (mFI-11) on mortality and postoperative complications in patients undergoing endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR).

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in critically ill patients and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Its complications often require renal replacement therapy (RRT). Invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and infections are considered risk factors for the occurrence of AKI.

We sought to develop a structural equation model (SEM) identifying physical and clinical risk factors associated with treatment for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). This retrospective, observational, case-control study included 314 infants screened for ROP between April 2004 and July 2024. A bivariate binary logistic regression model, decision tree, and structural equation model (SEM) were employed to develop a more general model for ROP requiring treatment.

Tracheostomy Practice in the Italian Intensive Care Units: A Point-Prevalence Survey.

Department of Surgical Sciences and Integrated Diagnostics (DISC), University of Genoa, 16126 Genova, Italy.

: A tracheostomy is a frequently performed surgical intervention in intensive care units (ICUs) for patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation. This procedure can offer significant benefits, including reduced sedation requirements, improved patient comfort, and enhanced airway management. However, it is also associated with various risks, and the absence of standardized clinical guidelines complicates its implementation.

: Meropenem-vaborbactam (MEV) and ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) are active against "urgent threat" pathogens like carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE). However, few studies have compared outcomes between them. : To explore comparative outcomes of MEV vs.
