Background: Temporal pattern of lipids changes in stroke patients and its prognostic significance has not yet been fully understood. Our aim was to assess the early temporal changes of lipids in acute ischemic stroke patients and its prognostic significance in predicting stroke outcome.

Methods: Total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides were measured at admission, 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, and at discharge. Stroke outcome was assessed by infarct volume, neurological deficit at discharge and 90 days stroke mortality. We have included only patients for whom blood and all clinical data were available at all time points during the follow-up period.

Results: In our stroke cohort (n = 52) there was a mean decrease of HDL-cholesterol from admission to discharge (0.32 mmol/L, 23%), accompanied with an increase in triglyceride concentration of 0.3 mmol/L (8%). LDL-cholesterol and total cholesterol had an initial rise at 24 hours, followed by the subsequent fall at 48 hours, 72 hours, and at discharge. Decreased HDL-cholesterol at 48 hours after stroke onset and at discharge is associated with poor patient functional outcome. Patients with large infarct volume had significantly higher concentrations of total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol at 24 hours, 48 hours, and at discharge than patients with small and medium infarct volume.

Conclusions: Early after the onset of acute ischemic stroke there is a marked change in the concentration of serum lipids. Reliable assessment of lipid status cannot be done during the early period after the stroke onset.

Gastrointestinal tract-related cancers pose a significant health burden, with high mortality rates. In order to detect the anomalies of the gastrointestinal tract that may progress to cancer, a video capsule endoscopy procedure is employed. The number of video capsule endoscopic ( ) images produced per examination is enormous, which necessitates hours of analysis by clinicians.

Electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra contain key information about molecular chirality by discriminating the absolute configurations of chiral molecules, which is crucial in asymmetric organic synthesis and the drug industry. However, existing predictive approaches lack the consideration of ECD spectra owing to the data scarcity and the limited interpretability to achieve trustworthy prediction. Here we establish a large-scale dataset for chiral molecular ECD spectra and propose ECDFormer for accurate and interpretable ECD spectrum prediction.

Statement Of Problem: Comprehensive data are needed on the performance of chemically activated, chairside hard reline materials when used with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) milled polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) denture bases and conventionally processed bases. This lack of data affects decisions regarding the chairside reline material to be used for improving the fit and retention of relined complete dentures.

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of 3 chemically activated, chairside hard reline materials on CAD-CAM milled and conventional heat-polymerized PMMA denture bases.

Background: Invasive fungal disease (IFD) poses significant challenges for critically ill patients with hematological malignancies (HMs). However, there is limited research on the clinical characteristics, risk factors, and outcomes of IFD within this population.

Method: A retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary center in China.

Objectives: To describe sleep duration, adherence to sleep recommendations, and behavioral and sociodemographic correlates of sleep among Samoan children.

Methods: In a longitudinal cohort study of Samoan children aged 2-9years (n = 481; 50% female), primary caregivers reported usual number of hours of nighttime sleep during 2015, 2017/2018, and 2019/2020 data collection waves. Associations between behavioral and sociodemographic characteristics and sleep duration were assessed using generalized linear and mixed effect regressions.
