The longest oligos that can be chemically synthesized are considered to be 200-mers. Here, we report direct synthesis of an 800-mer green fluorescent protein gene and a 1728-mer 29 DNA polymerase gene on an automated synthesizer. Key innovations that enabled this breakthrough include conducting the synthesis on a smooth surface rather than within the pores of traditional supports, and the use of the powerful catching-by-polymerization (CBP) method for isolating the full-length oligos from a complex mixture.

Histone deacetylase (HDAC)-6 has overwhelming implications in multiple cancers and neurodegenerative disorders. Unusual HDAC6 expression modulates various signalling mechanisms which in turn forms the aetiology of the above-mentioned disorders. Thus, restoring the typical activity of HDAC6 through small molecules may prove as a promising approach to beat these disorders.

Public transport represents a potential site for the transmission of resistant pathogens due to the rapid movement of large numbers of people. This study aimed to investigate the bacterial contamination of frequently touched surfaces in the public transport system operating in the proximity of the biggest Czech hospital during the coronavirus pandemic despite extensive cleaning and disinfection efforts. In June and September 2020, samples from the metro trains, ground transport and stationary objects were collected, enriched and cultured.

Fibrous dysplasia in the alveolar crest of edentulous site and the curettage for future implant placement: a case report.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Department of Oral Implantology, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Guangdong Engineering Research Center of Oral Restoration and Reconstruction & Guangzhou Key Laboratory of Basic and Applied Research of Oral Regenerative Medicine, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, 510182, China.

Background: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a self-limiting benign disease with slow progression in which the normal bone is replaced by dysplastic fibrous tissue. The craniofacial skeleton is one of the most commonly affected areas, and it can create unique challenges in dental implant therapy. This case aims to report an unusual presentation of FD localized in the alveolar crest bone of the edentulous site, causing special obstacles to implant placement, and provide a diagnostic and treatment process that may be referenced.

Introduction: IUDs are effective, reversible and safe methods of contraception. The mechanism of action of IUDs as a group is inducing endometrial atrophy, apoptosis, altering tubal motility; preventing sperm permeability, fertilization, and implantation. Complications of IUD include menstrual disturbance, pelvic pain, and increased risk of ectopic pregnancy with contraceptive failure, device expulsion, uterine perforation or transmural migration with misplacement of the device.
