Treated green diamonds can show residual radioactivity, generally due to immersion in radium salts. We report various activity measurements on two radioactive diamonds. The activity was characterized by alpha and gamma ray spectrometry, and the radon emanation was measured by alpha counting of a frozen source. Even when no residual radium contamination can be identified, measurable alpha and high-energy beta emissions could be detected. The potential health impact of radioactive diamonds and their status with regard to the regulatory policy for radioactive products are discussed.

Efficient removal of TcO from radioactive effluents while recovering drinking water remains a challenge. Herein, an excellent ReO (a nonradioactive surrogate of TcO ) scavenger is presented through covalently bonding imidazolium poly(ionic liquids) polymers with an ionic porous aromatic framework (iPAF), namely iPAF-P67, following an adsorption-site density-addition strategy. It shows rapid sorption kinetics, high uptake capacity, and exceptional selectivity toward ReO .

The shielding performance and activation susceptibility of a sandwich wall in the proton therapy facility of China Medical University Hospital were investigated in an integrated manner using FLUKA Monte Carlo simulations. The 2-m-thick partition wall between two adjoining treatment rooms had a three-layered structure, which comprised a 0.2-m-thick iron layer sandwiched between two layers of 0.

Introduction: Radioactive iodine (RAI) is commonly used in the management of differentiated thyroid cancers (DTCs). However, the long-term efficacy and the risk of tumor recurrence associated with it remain unclear. In particular, the comparison between recombinant human thyrotropin (rhTSH) and thyroid hormone withdrawal (THW) in terms of medium- and long-term recurrence rate in DTC patients has not been fully elucidated.

Radiobiological studies are ongoing to understand the consequences of internal exposure to neutron-activated radioactive microparticles, which were sprayed over experimental rats and mice. Special attention in these experiments is given to internal irradiation with radioactive microparticles with short-lived neutron-activated radionuclides 31Si (T1/2 = 2.62 h) and 56Mn (T1/2 = 2.

Glass fragments (16 green glasses and 2 red glasses) were handpicked from crushed Trinitite. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that these samples were essentially pure glass with the exception of minor amounts (less than 4 wt%) of quartz (which acts as a diluent) in some samples. The concentrations of 45 elements in the Trinity glasses were determined using Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis.
