Purpose: to characterize mastication and electrical activation of the masseter and anterior temporalis muscles in children and adolescents with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), and relate results to guided occlusion and occlusal interference.
Methods: This observational, analytical cross-sectional study included 22 subjects divided into mild OI (MOI) (type 1) (n=15) and moderate-to-severe OI (MSOI) (types 3, 4, and 5) (n=7) groups. The Orofacial Myofunctional Evaluation with Scores (OMES) form was used to evaluate the clinical aspects of mastication.
Unilateral whisker denervation activates plasticity mechanisms and circuit adaptations in adults. Single nucleus RNA sequencing and multiplex fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed differentially expressed genes related to altered glutamate receptor distributions and synaptogenesis in thalamocortical (TC) recipient layer 4 (L4) neurons of the sensory cortex, specifically those receiving input from the intact whiskers after whisker denervation. Electrophysiology detected increased spontaneous excitatory events at L4 neurons, confirming an increase in synaptic connections.

Venous aneurysms are fairly rare entities as compared to arterial aneurysms. Very few cases of spontaneous external jugular venous aneurysms are documented in literature without any previous history of trauma. Bilateral involvement is a further scarce finding.

: The aim was to evaluate vestibular function in patients with unilateral vestibular schwannoma before and in the short and medium term after surgical treatment to analyze vestibular compensation. The identification of the prognostic factors determining incomplete and slower balance recovery was assessed. Forty-five patients with unilateral vestibular schwannoma treated surgically through the middle cranial fossa and translabyrinthine approach were enrolled in this study.

Neuropathic pain is a pervasive health concern worldwide, posing significant challenges to both clinicians and neuroscientists. While acute pain serves as a warning signal for potential tissue damage, neuropathic pain represents a chronic pathological condition resulting from injury or disease affecting sensory pathways of the nervous system. Neuropathic pain is characterized by long-lasting ipsilateral hyperalgesia (increased sensitivity to pain), allodynia (pain sensation in response to stimuli that are not normally painful), and spontaneous unprovoked pain.
