Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies with adults provide evidence that functional brain networks, including the default mode network and frontoparietal network, underlie executive functioning (EF). However, given the challenges of using fMRI with infants and young children, little work has assessed the developmental trajectories of these networks or their associations with EF at key developmental stages. More recently, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has emerged as a promising neuroimaging tool which can provide information on cortical functional networks and can be more easily implemented with young children.

Background: Assisted Partner Notification (APN) is a high yield HIV testing strategy that is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for adults and adolescents aged at least 15 years in sub-Saharan Africa for HIV care and prevention. Although studies among adults have been done, there remains a paucity of data of APN service utilization among adolescents in Uganda, yet Adolescents Girls and Young Women (AGYW) have the highest incidence of HIV in Uganda, and generally, adolescents have the lowest HIV viral suppression rates. Failure to disclose to sexual partners poses a risk of propagating infection.

This study demonstrates the need for concerted efforts across the scientific, healthcare, agricultural, and policy sectors to control the emergence of AMR.
