Evidence of the ability to probe depth information of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) are presented using the time reversed elastic nonlinearity diagnostic (TREND). Depth estimation of SCC is important to determine when a stainless steel canister has been breached. TREND is a method to focus elastic energy to a point in space in order to probe that point for damage and its' depth penetration is used here to study depth information about SCC. High frequencies are used to probe near the surface, while low frequencies are used to probe deeper into a stainless steel section of a cylinder.

The creep failure of rocks is related to its microstructure, external loading and time. A nonlinear yield model was introduced to describe the variation in the cohesion and friction angle with plastic strain and intergranular stress. The mechanical properties and creep characteristics of deep granite were obtained by indoor tests, and a variable radius particle clump model was constructed based on the particle flow method.

One of the key technical challenges before the widespread adoption of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) is increasing the durability of the platinum catalyst layer to meet a target of 8000 operating hours with only a 10% loss of performance. Carbon corrosion, one of the primary mechanisms of degradation in fuel cells, has attracted attention from researchers interested in solving the durability problem. As such, the development of catalyst supports to avoid this issue has been a focus in recent years, with interest in hydrophobic supports such as highly graphitized carbons.

A trend has been established concerning the research and development of various green and biodegradable plastics for multi-purpose applications, aiming to replace petroleum-based plastics. Herein, we report the synthesis of chitosan (CH) films using lemon juice; these were reinforced with NiZnFeO nanoparticles (NiZnFeO NPs) to obtain improved mechanical and barrier properties, facilitating their future application as sustainable, corrosion-resistant coatings for medical instruments. The synthesized NiZnFeO NPs had a crystallite size of ~29 nm.

Sulfidogenic bacteria cause numerous issues in the oil industry since they produce sulfide, corroding steel equipment, reducing oil quality, and worsening the environmental conditions in oil fields. The purpose of this work was to isolate and taxonomically identify the sulfidogenic bacteria responsible for the corrosion of steel equipment at the Karazhanbas oil field (Kazakhstan). In this study, we characterized five sulfidogenic strains of the genera , , and isolated from the formation water of the Karazhanbas oil field (Kazakhstan).

Evaluating the current technical condition and residual life of structures that may have reached or exceeded the end of their design life is a challenging issue in many industrial sectors. This paper focuses on the assessment of the structural integrity of structural elements of a seaport portal crane after operation for about 33 years. Test specimens were extracted from two crane elements, a jib (element A) as the most seriously loaded unit and, for comparison, a boom (element B) as the less loaded one, and machined in two different orientations, longitudinal and transversal.
