Aim: To noninvasively investigate tumor cellularity measured using diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) and glucose metabolism measured by F-labeled fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-FDG-PET/CT) during radiation therapy (RT) for human papillomavirus negative (HPV-) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).
Methods: In this prospective study, 6 HPV- HNSCC patients underwent a total of 34 multimodality imaging examinations DW-MRI at 1.5 T Philips MRI scanner [( = 24) pre-, during- (2-3 wk), and post-treatment (Tx), and F-FDG PET/CT pre- and post-Tx ( = 10)]. All patients received RT. Monoexponential modeling of the DW-MRI data yielded the imaging metric apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and the mean of standardized uptake value (SUV) was measured from F-FDG PET uptake. All patients had a clinical follow-up as the standard of care and survival status was documented at 1 year.
Results: There was a strong negative correlation between the mean of pretreatment ADC (ρ = -0.67, = 0.01) and the pretreatment F-FDG PET SUV. The percentage (%) change in delta (∆) ADC for primary tumors and neck nodal metastases between pre- and Wk Tx were as follows: 75.4% and 61.6%, respectively, for the patient with no evidence of disease, 27.5% and 32.7%, respectively, for those patients who were alive with disease, and 26.9% and 7.31%, respectively, for those who were dead with disease.
Conclusion: These results are preliminary in nature and are indicative, and not definitive, trends rendered by the imaging metrics due to the small sample size of HPV- HNSCC patients in a Meixoeiro Hospital of Vigo Experience.

Background: This study aimed to explore the differences in quantitative diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI parameters in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPC) based on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) status before and during radiotherapy (RT).
Methods: Echo planar DW sequences acquired before and during (chemo)radiotherapy (CRT) of 178 patients with histologically proven OPC were prospectively analyzed. The volumetric region of interest (ROI) was manually drawn on the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map, and 105 DW-MRI radiomic parameters were extracted.
Purpose: Defining a microscopic tumor infiltration boundary is critical to the success of radiation therapy. Currently, radiation oncologists use margins to geometrically expand the visible tumor for radiation treatment planning in soft tissue sarcomas (STS). Image-based models of tumor progression would be critical to personalize the treatment radiation field to the pattern of sarcoma spread.

Background: This prospective study tested the hypothesis that the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value and tumor volume (TV) measured in diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) before, during, and after the treatment are quantitative imaging markers to assess tumor response in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).
Methods: Multi-parametric MRI was prospectively done for MIBC patients at 3 time points. Pre-treatment ADC value, pre-treatment TV, as well as, percent of changes (ΔADC%, and ΔTV%) in these parameters at mid- and post-treatment relative to baseline were calculated and compared between the patients with and without clinical complete response (CR).

Purpose: To retrain a model based on a previously identified prognostic imaging biomarker using apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values from diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) in a preclinical setting and validate the model using clinical DW-MRI data of patients with locally advanced head-and-neck cancer (HNC) acquired before radiochemotherapy.
Material And Methods: A total of 31 HNC patients underwent T2-weighted and DW-MRI using 3 T MRI before radiochemotherapy (35 x 2 Gy). Gross tumor volumes (GTV) were delineated based on T2-weighted and b500 images.
