Dielectrics are an important class of materials that are ubiquitous in modern electronic applications. Even though their properties are important for the performance of devices, the number of compounds with known dielectric constant is on the order of a few hundred. Here, we use Density Functional Perturbation Theory as a way to screen for the dielectric constant and refractive index of materials in a fast and computationally efficient way. Our results constitute the largest dielectric tensors database to date, containing 1,056 compounds. Details regarding the computational methodology and technical validation are presented along with the format of our publicly available data. In addition, we integrate our dataset with the Materials Project allowing users easy access to material properties. Finally, we explain how our dataset and calculation methodology can be used in the search for novel dielectric compounds.

It is a major challenge to obtain broadband microwave absorption (MA) properties using low dielectric or magnetic nanoparticle-decorated carbon composites due to the limited single conductive loss or polarization loss of the carbon materials used as substrates. Novel pure cellulose-derived graphite carbon (CGC) materials can be used as an exceptional substrate option due to their special defective graphitic carbon structure, which provides both conduction and polarization loss. Herein, CGC@ZnO composites were first synthesized by atomic layer deposition (ALD) for use as microwave absorbents.

In this study, we present a novel semi-tapered depressed-cladding waveguide structure, designed and fabricated using femtosecond laser direct writing technology. The optical guiding performance of this semi-tapered waveguide is systematically analyzed by characterizing its loss characteristics.

In this article, what we believe to be a novel dielectric-metal hybrid structure localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor for ultra-trace detection of Pb is proposed, featuring a zinc sulfide layer, silver nanodisks (Ag-disks), and graphene oxide (GO) covering the Ag-disks. The sensor works by detecting the variation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on its surface when Pb cleaves a substrate strand linked to a DNAzyme, causing the AuNPs modified on the substrate strand to disperse.

Although dual-band or even multiple-band high-Q resonances are applicable to extend the operation range of a nanophotonic device, manipulating the high-Q modes individually is a necessity to implement plural intriguing applications in one system as well as optimize the capabilities across each spectrum. In this work, a novel approach is presented to independently control dual high-Q modes with distinct origins in an all-dielectric metasurface system.

Low humidity detection down to the parts per million level is urgently demanded in various industrial applications. The hardly detected tiny electrical signal variations caused by a very small amount of water adsorption are one of the intrinsic reasons that restrain the detection limit of the humidity sensors. Herein, a carbon-based field-effect transistor (FET) humidity sensor utilizing adsorbed water as the dual function of a sensing gate and analyte was proposed.
