Article Abstract
Control of the reversibility during boronic ester formation from boronic acids and diols was found to be possible by choosing an appropriate solvent. As an example, ferrocene dimers and trimers were constructed by using tetrol 1 with an indacene framework, 1,1'-ferrocenediboronic acid 2, and ferrocenemonoboronic acid 4. When equimolar amounts of 1 and 2 were mixed in methanol under equilibrating conditions, two kinds of stacked ferrocene dimers homo- and hetero-3 were selectively obtained depending on the reaction time and both structures were determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis. On the other hand, the ferrocene trimer 7 was successfully constructed by stepwise assembly in the presence of anhydrous magnesium sulfate in acetone where the equilibration of boronic esters was suppressed, while no formation of ferrocene trimer 7 was detected when all components 1, 2 and 4 (2 : 1 : 2 ratio) for trimer 7 were mixed at a time in methanol under equilibrating conditions.

The reversible modulation of chirality has gained significant attention not only for fundamental stereochemical studies but also for numerous applications ranging from liquid crystals (LCs) to molecular motors and machines. This requires the construction of switchable molecules with (multiple) chiral elements in a highly enantioselective manner, which is often a significant synthetic challenge. Here, we show that the dimerization of an easily accessible enantiopure planar chiral ferrocene-indanone building block affords a multi-stimuli-responsive dimer (FcD) with pre-determined double bond geometry, helical chirality, and relative orientation of the two ferrocene motifs in high yield.

The addition of Na[BArF] (BArF = tetrakis(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)borate) to [Pd(PP)Cl] (PP = 1,1'-bis(phosphino)ferrocene ligands) compounds results in the loss of a chloride ligand and the formation of the dimeric species [Pd(PP)(-Cl)][BArF]. In most cases, the addition of a monodentate phosphine, PR, to these dimeric species leads to cleaving of the dimer and formation of [Pd(PP)(PR)Cl][BArF]. While these reactions are readily observed via a significant color change, the P{H} NMR spectra offer more significant support, as the singlet for the dimer is replaced with three doublets of doublets.

The stable ferrocene-based N-heterocyclic silylenes fc[(N{B})Si] (A; fc=1,1'-ferrocenylene, {B}=(HCNDipp)B, Dipp=2,6-diisopropylphenyl) and fc[(NDipp)Si] (B) are compared in a study focussing on their reactivity towards a range of small to moderately sized molecular substrates, viz. P, S, Se, MesN (Mes=mesityl), RC≡CH, and RC≡CR (R=Ph, SiMe). The Dipp-substituted congener B exhibits a more pronounced ambiphilicity and is sterically less congested than its 1,3,2-diazaborolyl-substituted relative A, in line with the higher reactivity of the former.

D-dimer is a very important biomarker about sepsis, pulmonary thromboembolism and atherosclerosis, thus designing effective and sensitive method for its detection is of great significance. Herein, by synthesizing β-cyclodextrin-carbon nanotube nanohybrid (CNTs-CD) as the carrier to assemble the initial antibody (Ab) of D-dimer, immobilizing secondary antibody (Ab) and sulfydryl ferrocene (Fc) on the nanogold (Au) particles surface as the signaling amplifier (Ab-Au-Fc), a low cost, simple, sensitive and effective sandwich-like electrochemical immunosensing (SEI) platform of D-dimer was proposed in this work for the first time. Briefly, CNTs shows large specific area and superior electroconductivity, and CD provides high host guest recognition ability that could bound with Ab; meanwhile, the Fc probe offers stable current response which are proportionable positively to the level of D-dimer.
