Node Reporting and Data System 1.0 (Node-RADS) for the Assessment of Oncological Patients' Lymph Nodes in Clinical Imaging.

J Clin Med

January 2025

Radiology, Multizonal Unit of Rovereto and Arco, APSS Provincia Autonoma Di Trento, 38123 Trento, Italy.

The assessment of lymph node (LN) involvement with clinical imaging is a key factor in cancer staging. Node Reporting and Data System 1.0 (Node-RADS) was introduced in 2021 as a new system specifically tailored for classifying and reporting LNs on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging scans.

Introduction Tumor staging is essential for determining treatment strategies and predicting prognosis in cancer patients. Accurate imaging techniques are critical for staging, metastasis screening, treatment response assessment, and recurrence detection. Objective In this prospective study, we aimed to compare the sensitivity of whole-body diffusion-weighted imaging (WB-DWI) with positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in detecting metastases.

Background: The lymphatic system is the major route of cancer metastasis, and sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) are the first station for the spread of cancer cells. Accurate identification of SLNs by tracers during surgery is crucial for SLN biopsy and lymphadenectomy. However, conventional monomodal tracers such as blue dyes and carbon nanoparticles often induce a misjudgment of SLNs and thus are still unsatisfying for clinical applications.

Plasma CircCYP24A1 as a Novel Biomarker of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Technol Cancer Res Treat

December 2024

Institute of Tissue Engineering and Stem Cells, Beijing Anzhen Nanchong Hospital, Capital Medical University & Nanchong Central Hospital, The Second Clinical Medical College of North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong 63700, China.

Background: A clinical challenge in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains the lack of applicable plasma biomarkers for screening and diagnosis. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) hold great potential as biomarkers for cancer. The study aims to explore a circRNA as a potential plasma biomarker for screening strategies and diagnostic approaches to ESCC.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ex vivo fluorescence laser scanning microscopy (FCM) enables real-time imaging of fresh tissue samples without traditional slide preparation, and this study specifically investigates its application in evaluating biopsy samples from endoscopic procedures for lung lesions and lymph nodes.
  • - The study involved 32 patients, showing that the FCM Vivascope 2500 could accurately assess sample adequacy and malignancy, with a perfect agreement noted between its evaluations and final histological results.
  • - The findings suggest that FCM could significantly improve the speed of diagnostic information during endoscopic biopsies, potentially enhancing patient management by reducing the time needed to diagnose lung cancer.
