Article Abstract

In this paper, Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) repula Oláh & Johanson, 2012 is synonymized with Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) lobata (Ulmer, 1909), and the species Botosaneanu, 2002 is transferred to Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) as a synonym of . Additionally, we present more detailed illustrations of the male genitalia of Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) lobata and Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) signata (Banks, 1903), and include notes on their distributions to aid in the identification of these two, often-confused species.

Mining tailings alter insects: revealing fluctuating asymmetry in the caddisfly Smicridea coronata.

Laboratório de Ecologia Evolutiva & Biodiversidade, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil.

The Samarco/Vale/BHP mine tailing dam breach that took place in Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, in 2015, deposited high concentrations of metals and metalloids in the Rio Doce basin, severely impacting freshwater and riverine forest ecosystems. To assess developmental instability of caddisflies in response to the environmental impacts of the dam breach, we investigated the fluctuating asymmetry (FA) in the species Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) coronata (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae). FA was assessed at individual and populational scales using geometric morphometric methods in the cephalic capsule and mandibles of larvae and also on the forewings of adults, both collected under the impacted condition, and under the least disturbed condition.

The Trichoptera, holometabolous aquatic insects found worldwide except in Antarctica, exhibit a unique feature in their sperm, which are solely nucleated (eupyrene). Current knowledge on Trichoptera sperm is limited to Old World species. To enhance our understanding of their reproductive biology and contribute to systematic discussions, we describe the male reproductive system and spermatozoa of Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) iguazu Flint, 1983 (Hydropsychidae).

Two new species of Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) Müller 1879 (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae) from Atlantic Forest, Brazil.

Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA), Programa de Bolsas de Iniciação Científica (PIBIC), Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil..

Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) Müller 1879 contains 106 species, 41 of which occur in Brazil, mainly in the Atlantic Forest biome. Despite its diversity, it is estimated that many undescribed species are believed to be housed in scientific collections, waiting to be described. Smicridea specimens housed in two Brazilian insect collections (Coleção Entomológica Professor José Alfredo Pinheiro Dutra, Rio de Janeiro and Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo) were examined and two new species of S.

A brief collecting exploration to small streams in the coastal zone of French Guiana resulted in the capture of eight species belonging to the genus Smicridea McLachlan 1871 and two belonging to the genus Chimarra Stephens 1829. Given the scarcity of knowledge about the trichopteran fauna of this territory, the results of the study of this material are provided. A new species of the genus Smicridea is described: Smicridea (Rhyacophylax) sanctorum sp.
