One hundred twenty-four boys and girls were tested on a conservation of number task in kindergarten and were administered an arithmetic achievement test one and a half years later, towards the end of the first grade. The results indicated that early conservation was predictive of later arithmetic performance. Children who conserved number in kindergarten were significantly more likely to perform at or above grade level in arithmetic a year and a half later than were those who did not. Similarly, the mean first grade arithmetic achievement test score of those who conserved number in kindergarten was significantly higher than that of those who did not. These findings were interpreted as supportive of Piaget's assertion that conservation is basic to the understanding of number concepts.

The three-vessel view (3VV) is a standardized transverse scanning plane used in fetal cardiac ultrasound screening to measure the absolute and relative diameters of the pulmonary artery (PA), ascending aorta (Ao), and superior vena cava, as required. The PA/Ao ratio is used to support the diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD). However, vascular diameters are measured manually by examiners, which causes intra- and interobserver variability in clinical practice.

This paper presents a method for lossless compression of images with fast decoding time and the option to select encoder parameters for individual image characteristics to increase compression efficiency. The data modeling stage was based on linear and nonlinear prediction, which was complemented by a simple block for removing the context-dependent constant component. The prediction was based on the Iterative Reweighted Least Squares () method which allowed the minimization of mean absolute error.

Reservoir-operation optimisation is a crucial aspect of water-resource development and sustainable water process management. This study addresses bi-objective optimisation problems by proposing a novel crossover evolution operator, known as the hybrid simulated binary and improved arithmetic crossover (SBAX) operator, based on the simulated binary cross (SBX) and arithmetic crossover operators, and applies it to the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms-II (NSGA-II) algorithm to improve the algorithm. In particular, the arithmetic crossover operator can obtain an optimal solution more precisely within the solution space, whereas the SBX operator can explore a broader range of potential high-quality solutions.

In understanding the nature of mathematical skills, the most influential theories suggest that mathematical cognition draws on different systems: numerical, linguistic, spatial, and general cognitive skills. Studies show that skills in these areas are highly predictive of outcomes in mathematics. Nonetheless, the strength of these relations with mathematical achievement varies, and little is known about the moderators or relative importance of each predictor.

The present study aimed to establish the feasibility of the wastewater treatment process generated from an oleaginous fermentation plant. Treatment of spent fermentation broth (SFB) poses significant environmental challenges due to its high organic load, recalcitrant compounds, and potential toxicity. The synergistic effects of combining ozone-based advanced oxidation process (O-AOP) with biological treatment for the efficient degradation of pollutants in spent fermentation broth.
