In this work, a novel Co/Sm-doped CeO (SDC)/Co trilayer of ∼6 μm is deposited by alternating electrodeposition and electrophoresis and oxidized to a CoO/SDC/CoO trilayer structure. This coating is unique and effective in the following aspects: (1) The area specific resistance of the coated interconnect is more stable and lower than that of the uncoated interconnect after thermal treatment at 800 °C for 400 h. (2) The CoO/SDC/CoO coating layer can effectively inhibit Cr diffusion and evaporation and significantly slow the oxidation rate of the interconnect. (3) The SmSrCoFeO cathode in the electrolyte/cathode/interconnect half-cell retains its initial stoichiometry after 100 h of the thermal treatment. Subsequently, the ohmic resistance R, high frequency polarization resistance R, and low frequency polarization resistance R of the half-cell with the CoO/SDC/CoO coated interconnect are all smaller than those of the half-cell with the bare interconnect. The CoO/SDC/CoO coating layer has great advantages to be used as a protective layer for the metallic interconnect in solid oxide fuel cells to improve cell performance, stability, and durability.

Volcanic provinces are among the most active but least well understood landscapes on Earth. Here, we show that the central Cascade arc, USA, exhibits systematic spatial covariation of topography and hydrology that are linked to aging volcanic bedrock, suggesting systematic controls on landscape evolution. At the Cascade crest, a locus of Quaternary volcanism, water circulates deeply through the upper [Formula: see text]1 km of crust but transitions to shallow and dominantly horizontal flow as rocks age away from the arc front.

Integrating two or more materials to construct membranes with heterogeneous pore structures is an effective strategy for enhancing separation performance. Regularly arranging these heterogeneous pores can significantly optimize the combined effect of the introduced components. Porous Organic Cages (POCs), an emerging subclass of porous materials composed of discrete molecules, assemble to form interconnected pores and exhibit permanent porosity in the solid state.

The gastric mucosal barrier, through its gastric pits, serves as a pathway for secretions, ensuring that mucus produced by the gastric glands is transferred to the gastric lumen, providing stable protection. Here a bioinspired liquid pockets material is shown, composed of a thermo-driven hydrogel that acts as an external activation unit to release interflowing liquid responsively, and porous matrices that serve as interconnected pockets to transfer it, enabling controlled internal flow and adaptive barrier functionality. Experiments and theoretical analysis demonstrate the stability and regulatory mechanisms of these liquid pockets, based on the interconnected pockets between the external activation unit and internal fluid flow.

In this investigation, the influence of a combination of poly(ethylene-oxide) (PEO) and salt (NaCl) as water-soluble porogens on the synthesis of sustainable porous poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) membranes is explored. Nine mixture compositions are examined. PCL sheets are fabricated through the cryomilling, hot pressing, and porogen leaching approach.
