Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of pancreatic surgery for pancreatic cancer in elderly patients.
Patients And Methods: In total, 9 patients underwent pancreatic surgery for pancreatic cancer between April 2005 and March 2014. The surgical complications were evaluated by Clavien-Dindo classification.
Results: The median operating time was 420(range: 354-503)min and the median blood loss was 640(range: 350-1,170)mL. Grade 2 or higher complications were observed in 3 patients. Pancreatic fistula(Grade 3b)was observed in 1 patient, delirium was observed(Grade 2)in 1 patient, and portal vein thrombosis(Grade 2)was observed in 1 patient. No surgical mortality was observed.
Discussion: Our results suggest that pancreatic surgery is a safe and feasible treatment for pancreatic cancer in elderly patients.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) have emerged as promising treatment options, showcasing immense potential in addressing both oncologic and nononcologic diseases. Single-component organic phototherapeutic agents (SCOPAs) offer advantages compared to inorganic or multicomponent nanomedicine, including better biosafety, lower toxicity, simpler synthesis, and enhanced reproducibility. Nonetheless, how to further improve the therapeutic effectiveness of SCOPAs remains a challenging research area.

Rationale: Peritoneal mucinous cystadenoma is rare in the clinic, lacks specific clinical manifestations, tumor markers, and imaging features, and is easily misdiagnosed and missed. Clinical practitioners should maintain a high level of vigilance. Here, we report a case of laparoscopic peritoneal mucinous cystadenoma stripping to improve our understanding of the disease.

The optimal surgical indication for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) remains highly contentious. We aimed to determine the preoperative predictive factors of malignancy and independent prognostic factors in patients with IPMN who underwent curative-intent resection. In this study, 104 patients with a pathological diagnosis of IPMN who underwent curative-intent resection were included.

Immunocompromised populations, including cancer patients, elderly individuals, and those with chronic diseases, are the primary targets of superbugs. Traditional vaccines are less effective due to insufficient or impaired immune cells. Inspired by the "vanguard" effect of neutrophils (NE) during natural infection, this project leverages the ability of NE to initiate the NETosis program to recruit monocytes and DC cells, designing vaccines that can rapidly recruit immune cells and enhance the immune response.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, is characterized by persistent hyperglycemia resulting from damage to the pancreatic β cells and an absolute deficiency of insulin, leading to multi-organ involvement and a poor prognosis. The progression of T1DM is significantly influenced by oxidative stress and apoptosis. The natural compound eugenol (EUG) possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-apoptotic properties.
