Objectives: Asthma is a common chronic disease. Asthma and anti-asthmatic medications have been suggested as risk factors for increased susceptibility to caries. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different types and forms of antihistaminic medications and the duration of drug consumption on the severity of dental caries in asthmatic children.
Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Asthma and Allergy Department of Children's Medical Center in Tehran, Iran. Eighty-five children between three to 12 years who had been diagnosed with asthma, by means of taking medical history, clinical examination and spirometry were chosen by non-simple random sampling. The participants and their parents were interviewed. Oral examination was performed by a qualified dentist. The data were collected by use of questionnaires and analyzed by the stepwise multivariate linear regression analysis, using SPSS version 16. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: There was a significant correlation between the number of cetirizine and ketotifen tablets taken and decayed/missing/filled (dmf/DMF) teeth score (P=0.006). There were no correlations between the number of consumed sprays and dmf/DMF score (P=0.923), the duration of drug therapy (P=0.907) or the type of medication taken including ß2 agonists, antihistamines, steroids or a combination of them (P=0.907).
Conclusions: The present study showed that the tablet form of medications significantly increased the severity of dental caries even in presence of confounders (sex, age, duration of disease, tooth brushing, sugar consumption, fluoride therapy, mouth dryness).

White adipose tissue (WAT) comprises a plethora of cell types beyond adipocytes forming a regulatory network that ensures systemic energy homeostasis. Intertissue communication is facilitated by metabolites and signaling molecules that are spread by vasculature and nerves. Previous works indicated that WAT responds to environmental cues by adapting the abundance of these "communication routes", however, high intra-tissue heterogeneity questions the informative value of bulk or single cell analyses and underscores the necessity of whole-mount imaging.

Unlabelled: Engineered three-dimensional (3D) tissue culture platforms are useful for reproducing and elucidating complex in vivo biological phenomena. Spheroids, 3D aggregates of living cells, are produced based on physicochemical or microfabrication technologies and are commonly used even in cancer pathology research. However, conventional methods have difficulties in constructing 3D structures depending on the cell types, and require specialized techniques/lab know-how to reproducibly control the spheroid size and shape.

is a prevalent fungal pathogen responsible for infections in humans. As described recently, nanometer-sized extracellular vesicles (EVs) produced by play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of infection by facilitating host inflammatory responses and intercellular communication. This study investigates the functional properties of EVs released by biofilms formed by two strains-3147 (ATCC 10231) and SC5314-in eliciting host responses.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFiber link failure is a common and frequent failure type in terrestrial optical networks (TONs). To guarantee the stable operation of the TON against single or multi-link failures, various kinds of survivability technologies have been proposed. Although these survivability technologies are effective in many cases, a link cut set (LCS), which is a set of fiber links whose simultaneous failures can disconnect the TON, presents an extreme situation of network partitioning that these technologies cannot address.

Background: This study qualitatively investigates retirement-age adults' perspectives on engaging in health behaviors such as physical activity or a healthy diet, distinguishing facilitators, barriers, goals, and motivations (the two later in line with Self-Determination Theory).
Methods: Two clinical psychologists conducted four focus groups with Spanish adults around retirement age. We conducted inductive and deductive content analysis.
