CD4 T cell activation induces dramatic changes to cellular metabolism for supporting their growth and differentiation into effector subsets. While the cytokines IL-4, TGF-β and IL-21 promote differentiation into Th9 cells, metabolic factors regulating this process remain poorly understood. To assess the role of lipid metabolism in human Th9 cell differentiation, naïve CD4 T cells were purified from blood of healthy volunteers and cultured in the presence or absence of compounds targeting PPAR-γ, acetyl-CoA-carboxylase 1 (ACC1), and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) for four days.

The role of inoculum in initiating anaerobic digestion (AD), and accelerating the start-up of anaerobic digesters has been well-documented. However, the effect of aligning the origin temperature of the inoculum with the operational temperature of the new digester remains underexplored. This study investigates how the origin temperature and characteristics of the inoculum affect the kinetics and biodegradability of sewage sludge (SS) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common pediatric psychiatric disorders and is frequently diagnosed and treated by pediatricians. Stimulant medications are the first-line treatment for ADHD but may not be a good fit for many patients due to side effects, inadequate treatment response, or family preference. Non-stimulant ADHD medications provide a useful alternative for patients that cannot tolerate stimulants, have an incomplete treatment response to stimulants, are at risk for stimulant diversion, or whose family prefers to avoid stimulants.

Long-term survival has improved in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) due to effective surgical techniques and anti-rejection therapies. Chronic immunosuppression associated with it has led to several types of skin cancers leading to substantial morbidity and mortality. Structured patient education including sun protective behaviors, regular dermatological surveillance, nicotinamide, long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), early switch to mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors (mTORis), combining them with low-dose calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs), can decrease the cancer risk.
