In recent years, treatment techniques in which polyglycolic acid sheets are applied to various situations with fibrin glue have exhibited great clinical potential, and previous studies have reported safety and efficacy. We describe closure of a non-healing perforated duodenal ulcer with the use of a polyglycolic acid sheet and fibrin glue in an elderly patient who was not a candidate for surgery.

Thermoplastic polymers provide a versatile platform to mimic various aspects of physiological extracellular matrix properties such as chemical composition, stiffness, and topography for use in cell and tissue engineering applications. In this review, we provide a brief overview of the most promising thermoplastic polymers, and in particular the thermoplastic polyesters, such as poly(lactic acid), poly(glycolic acid), and polycaprolactone, and the thermoplastic elastomers, such as polyurethanes, polyhydroxyalkanoates, and poly(butyl cyanoacrylate). A particular focus has been made on the synthesis processes, the processability and the biocompatibility.

Poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) is a rapidly degradable polymer mainly used in medical applications, attributed to its relatively high cost. Reducing its price will boost its utilization in a wider range of application fields, such as gas barriers and shale gas extraction. This article presents a strategy that utilizes recycled PGA as a raw material alongside typical carbon nanomaterials, such as graphene oxide nanosheets (GO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), to produce low-cost, fully degradable yarns via electrospinning and twisting techniques.

Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) is widely used in a variety of long-acting injectables. However, its biodegradable nature creates potential chemical stability challenges during melt extrusion, where PLGA is exposed to elevated temperature (100-140 °C) for several minutes. The use of 3D-printed gene-activated bone grafts represents a highly promising approach in the fields of dentistry and orthopedics. Bioresorbable poly-lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) scaffolds, infused with adenoviral constructs that carry osteoinductive factor genes, may provide an effective alternative to existing bone grafts for the reconstruction of extensive bone defects. This study aims to develop and investigate the properties of 3D scaffolds composed of PLGA and adenoviral constructs carrying the BMP2 gene (Ad-BMP2), both in vitro and in vivo.
