Introduction: Population risk for neural tube defects (NTDs) can be determined using red blood cell (RBC) folate. However, a paucity of biomarker and surveillance data among non-lactating, non-pregnant women of reproductive age (NPWRA) from Africa limits accurate assessment. Our study assessed folate and vitamin B12 status among non-lactating NPWRA and predicted population risk of NTDs in Tanzania.

Assessing groundwater contamination risk is a critical aspect of preventing and managing groundwater pollution. There was a research gap in the investigation of uncertainties in modeling groundwater contamination risks in aquifers. This study addresses this gap using Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA), with a novel focus on risk exposures from geogenic contaminants, such as lead (Pb).

Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging plays a pivotal role in oncology for the early detection of metastatic tumors and response to therapy assessment due to its high sensitivity compared to anatomical imaging modalities. The balance between image quality and radiation exposure is critical, as reducing the administered dose results in a lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and information loss, which may significantly affect clinical diagnosis. Deep learning (DL) algorithms have recently made significant progress in low-dose (LD) PET reconstruction.

Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is a brominated flame retardant, that is added, but not chemically bonded, to consumer products. HBCD is sold as a commercial-grade HBCD mixture containing three major stereoisomers: alpha (α), beta (β), and gamma (γ), with relative amounts of 12% for α-HBCD, 6% for β-HBCD, and 82% for γ-HBCD. HBCDs are widely measured in the environment and in biological matrices.

Unconventional spin-orbit torques arising from electric-field-generated spin currents in anisotropic materials have promising potential for spintronic applications, including for perpendicular magnetic switching in high-density memory applications. Here, all the independent elements of the spin torque conductivity tensor allowed by bulk crystal symmetries for the tetragonal conductor IrO are determined via measurements of conventional (in-plane) anti-damping torques for IrO thin films in the high-symmetry (001) and (100) orientations. It is then tested whether rotational transformations of this same tensor can predict both the conventional and unconventional anti-damping torques for IrO thin films in the lower-symmetry (101), (110), and (111) orientations, finding good agreement.
