5-Hydroxymethylcytidine (hmC) was recently identified as a direct metabolite of mC in RNA. We investigated the stability of hmC in human cells using bio-isotopologues and LC-MS/HRMS. This has led to the discovery of a second oxidative metabolite of mC in RNA, namely 2'-O-methyl-5-hydroxymethylcytidine (hmCm). Subsequent quantitative analysis of total RNA from higher organisms revealed varying levels and TET-independent formation of this new RNA modification.

Cuproptosis, a newly identified form of cell death, has drawn increasing attention for its association with various cancers, though its specific role in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unclear. In this study, transcriptomic and clinical data from CRC patients available in the TCGA database were analyzed to investigate the impact of cuproptosis. Differentially expressed genes linked to cuproptosis were identified using Weighted Gene Co-Expression Network Analysis (WGCNA).

Objective: Many different types of infectious oral diseases have been identified clinically, including chronic periodontitis. is the main pathogen causing chronic periodontitis, which is closely related to atherosclerosis (AS) and can promote the expression levels of caveolin 1 (Cav-1) and induced ribonucleic acid (RNA)-binding protein human antigen R (HuR). However, the roles of Cav-1 and its relationship with HuR in -mediated AS progression remain largely unknown.

N6-methyladenosine regulates metabolic remodeling in kidney aging through transcriptional regulator GLIS1.

BMC Biol

December 2024

Department of Orthodontics, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, China Medical University, Shenyang, 110001, China.

Background: Age-related kidney impairment, characterized by tubular epithelial cell senescence and renal fibrosis, poses a significant global public health threat. Although N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation is implicated in various pathological processes, its regulatory mechanism in kidney aging remains unclear.

Methods: An m6A-mRNA epitranscriptomic microarray was performed to identify genes with abnormal m6A modifications in aged human kidney tissues.

The present study was designed to evaluate the protective efficacy of troxerutin against cypermethrin-induced behavioral defects, motor function abnormalities, and oxidative stress in mice. Twenty-four adult female albino mice were randomly divided into four equal groups. The first group served as control, the second group was treated with cypermethrin (20 mg/kg b.

Current Progress on Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction: An Update.

J Integr Neurosci

December 2024

Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, 330006 Nanchang, Jiangxi, China.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) represents a significant clinical concern, particularly among elderly surgical patients. It is characterized by a decline in cognitive performance, affecting memory, attention, coordination, orientation, verbal fluency, and executive function. This decline in cognitive abilities leads to longer hospital stays and increased mortality.
