A mechanochemical Strecker reaction involving a wide range of aldehydes (aromatic, heteroaromatic and aliphatic), amines, and KCN afforded a library of α-aminonitriles upon mechanical activation. This multicomponent process was efficiently activated by lignocellulosic biomass as additives. Particularly, commercially available Kraft lignin was found to be the best activator for the addition of cyanide to the in situ formed imines. A comparative study of the P-NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) along with IR (Infrared) data analysis for the Kraft lignin and methylated Kraft lignin samples ascertained the importance of the free hydroxyl groups in the activation of the mechanochemical reaction. The solvent-free mechanochemical Strecker reaction was then coupled with a lactamization process leading to the formation of the -benzylphthalimide () and the isoindolinone derivative .

As an indispensable member of the reticular material family, metal-carbon-based organometallic frameworks (OMFs) remain largely underexplored, and no chiral OMFs (COMFs) have been reported thus far. Herein, we first report the construction of COMFs from a Pd-isocyanide OMF via nucleophilic addition to the Pd-isocyanide moiety with optically pure amines. The obtained Pd-bis(acyclic diaminocarbene) (Pd-BADC)-derived chiral OMFs display excellent applicability and can be reusable chiral catalysts to highly promote asymmetric Strecker and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions in a heterogeneous way.

Enzymatic Cascades for Stereoselective and Regioselective Amide Bond Assembly.

Amide bond formation is fundamental in nature and is widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other valuable products. Current methods for amide synthesis are often step and atom inefficient, requiring the use of protecting groups, deleterious reagents and organic solvents that create significant waste. The development of cleaner and more efficient catalytic methods for amide synthesis remains an urgent unmet need.

Article Synopsis
  • The study presents a simple method for creating spiro-γ-lactams that have both seven- and five-membered rings using a multicomponent reaction that involves glycine.
  • Four different spiro-γ-lactams were analyzed, including some characterized through X-ray diffraction, indicating they are unstable intermediates from the Strecker degradation process.
  • The research explored this previously unknown reaction pathway using mass spectrometry, which helped outline a possible mechanism for the reaction.

The role of polyphenols in oxygen consumption and in the accumulation of acetaldehyde and Strecker aldehydes during wine oxidation.

This study explores the role of polyphenols in preventing oxidative deterioration of wine aroma. Wine models containing polyphenols extracted from grapes were fortified with delphinidin-3G (DELF) or catechin (CAT), and oxidized. DELF increased oxygen consumption rates (OCRs) and reduced the Strecker aldehydes (SAs) formation, while CAT decreased OCRs and increased SAs.

Nucleobase adenine is a promising candidate for synthesizing fascinating coordination polymers (CPs) due to the presence of five potential metal-ion binding centers. In recent years, CPs have emerged as promising Lewis acid-base centers containing heterogeneous catalysts for a wide range of organic transformations. However, the crucial role of stoichiometric regulations of the starting materials and their consequential impact on catalytic performance are rarely studied.
