This work describes a simple technique to produce porous ceramics with aligned porosity having very high permeability and specific surface area. SiOC-based compositions were processed from blends of three types of preceramic polymer and a catalyst, followed by curing and pyrolysis. The heating applied from the bottom of molds promoted the nucleation, expansion and rising of gas bubbles, and the creation of a ceramic matrix with axially oriented channels interconnected by small round pores. The samples were analyzed by SEM, tomography, BET, water immersion porosimetry and permeation to gas flow. The resulting bodies presented levels of open porosity (69.9-83.4%), average channel diameter (0.59-1.25 mm) and permeability (0.56-3.83 × 10 m) comparable to those of ceramic foams and honeycomb monoliths, but with specific surface area (4.8-121.9 m/g) typical adsorbents, enabling these lotus-type ceramics to be advantageously used as catalytic supports and adsorption components in several environmental control applications.

Background: Tumor size (TS) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most important prognostic factors. However, discrepancies between TS on preoperative images (TSi) and pathological specimens (TSp) have been reported. This study aims to evaluate the factors associated with the differences between TSi and TSp.

Aluminium and its alloys, especially Al6061, have gathered significant interest among researchers due to its less density, great durability, and high strength. Due to their lightweight properties, the precise machining of these alloys can become expensive through conventional machining operations for intricate products. Therefore, non-traditional machining such as electric discharge machining (EDM) can potentially be opted for the cutting of Al6061.

Nanofluidic iontronics, including the field-effect ionic diode (FE-ID) and field-effect ionic transistor (FE-IT), represent emerging nanofluidic logic devices that have been employed in sensitive analyses. Making analyte recognitions in predefined nanofluidic devices has been verified to improve the sensitivity and selectivity using a single ionic signal, such as ionic current amplification, rectification, and Coulomb blockade. However, the detection of analytes in complex systems generally necessitates more diverse signals beyond just ionic currents.

Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase-1 (PDK1) plays a crucial role in cancer cell metabolism by regulating the glycolytic pathway. Although, inhibitors targeting PDK1 have been effective in inhibiting glycolysis in multiple cancers, their lack of selectivity leading to off-target effects limit their therapeutic benefit. Herein, we investigated the inhibitory potential of six PDK1 inhibitors on cellular proliferation, migration, and invasion of androgen-sensitive LNCaP and androgen-negative PC-3 prostate cancer cells.
