X-ray crystal structures of three Λ-[Ru(L) dppz] complexes (dppz=dipyridophenazine; L=1,10-phenanthroline (phen), 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy)) bound to d((5BrC)GGC/GCCG) showed the compounds intercalated at a 5'-CG-3' step. The compounds bind through canted intercalation, with the binding angle determined by the guanine NH group, in contrast to symmetrical intercalation previously observed at 5'-TA-3' sites. This result suggests that canted intercalation is preferred at 5'-CG-3' sites even though the site itself is symmetrical, and we hypothesise that symmetrical intercalation in a 5'-CG-3' step could give rise to a longer luminescence lifetime than canted intercalation.

Covalent 2D magnets such as CrTe, which feature self-intercalated magnetic cations located between monolayers of transition-metal dichalcogenide material, offer a unique platform for controlling magnetic order and spin texture, enabling new potential applications for spintronic devices. Here, it is demonstrated that the unconventional anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in CrTe, characterized by additional humps and dips near the coercive field in AHE hysteresis, originates from an intrinsic mechanism dictated by the self-intercalation. This mechanism is distinctly different from previously proposed mechanisms such as topological Hall effect, or two-channel AHE arising from spatial inhomogeneities.

Unconventional Magnetic and Magneto-Transport Properties in Quasi-2D NiTaSeS Single Crystal.

Department of Materials Science & Engineering, CAS Key Lab of Materials for Energy Conversion, Anhui Laboratory of Advanced Photon Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, 230026, P. R. China.

Van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials have broad application prospects in next-generation spintronics. Inserting magnetic elements into nonmagnetic vdW materials can introduce magnetism and enhance various transport properties. Herein, the unconventional magnetic and magneto-transport phenomena is reported in NiTaSeS crystal by intercalating Ni atoms into nonmagnetic 2H-TaSeS matrix.

Spin-Canting-Induced Band Reconstruction in the Dirac Material Ca_{1-x}Na_{x}MnBi_{2}.

Laboratorium für Festkörperphysik, ETH-Zürich, 8093 Zürich, Switzerland.

The ternary AMnBi_{2} (A is alkaline as well as rare-earth atom) materials provide an arena for investigating the interplay between low-dimensional magnetism of the antiferromagnetic MnBi layers and the electronic states in the intercalated Bi layers, which harbor relativistic fermions. Here, we report on a comprehensive study of the optical properties and magnetic torque response of Ca_{1-x}Na_{x}MnBi_{2}. Our findings give evidence for a spin canting occurring at T_{s}∼50-100  K.

Geometrically frustrated Fe2P-like systems: beyond the Fe-trimer approximation.

J Phys Condens Matter

Fe(2)P-like structures can be strongly frustrated magnets due to their Kagome/triangular intercalated-layer structure. A complete magnetic solution of the complex spin architecture, and hence the full potential of the magnetic phenomena in Fe(2)P-like material prototypes, is yet to be found. A previous magnetic model for a representative FeCrAs-like system used a mean-field effective-spin to describe the 3g-Wyckoff located Fe-triangles.
