Gap junctions are intercellular channels made of connexin proteins, mediating both electrical and biochemical signals between cells. The ability of gap junction proteins to regulate immune responses, cell proliferation, migration, apoptosis and carcinogenesis makes them attractive therapeutic targets for treating inflammatory and neoplastic disorders in different organ systems. Alterations in gap junction profile and expression levels are observed in hyperproliferative skin disorders, lymphatic vessel diseases, inflammatory lung diseases, liver injury and neoplastic disorders. It is now recognized that the therapeutic effects mediated by traditional pharmacological agents are dependent upon gap junction communication and may even act by influencing gap junction expression or function. Novel strategies for modulating the function or expression of connexins, such as the use of synthetic mimetic peptides and siRNA technology are considered.

Background: We aim to investigate efficacies of Ras homolog (Rho)-associated kinases (ROCK) inhibitors on Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathological proteins in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-differentiated human neurons and the P301S tau transgenic mouse model (PS19).
Method: Quantitative liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and targeted ELISA were implemented to investigate the effect of treatment with fasudil or its derivatives on the human neurons and brains from PS19 mice. We explored the efficacy of these ROCK inhibitors in reducing tau phosphorylation, and the brain proteomic profiles after their administration in mice.

Quantum error correction (QEC) provides a practical path to fault-tolerant quantum computing through scaling to large qubit numbers, assuming that physical errors are sufficiently uncorrelated in time and space. In superconducting qubit arrays, high-energy impact events can produce correlated errors, violating this key assumption. Following such an event, phonons with energy above the superconducting gap propagate throughout the device substrate, which in turn generate a temporary surge in quasiparticle (QP) density throughout the array.

Multiterminal Josephson junctions (MTJJs), devices in which a normal metal is in contact with three or more superconducting leads, have been proposed as artificial analogs of topological crystals. The topological nature of MTJJs manifests as a modulation of the quasiparticle density of states (DOS) in the normal metal that may be probed by tunneling measurements. We show that one can reveal this modulation by measuring the resistance of diffusive MTJJs with normal contacts, which shows rich structure as a function of the phase differences {ϕ_{i}}.

Propagation of intercellular calcium waves through tissues has been found to coordinate different multicellular responses. Nevertheless, our understanding of how calcium waves operate remains limited. In this study, we explore the real-time dynamics of intercellular calcium waves in Drosophila adipose tissues.
