The National Audit Office (NAO) is conducting a value-for-money study on the UK Government's 2008 drug strategy, ("the Strategy"). The NAO study, , focuses in particular on local delivery authorities' capacity and capability to effectively tackle problem drug use (PDU) through delivery of local services. To inform the NAO's value-for-money study, RAND Europe performed a literature review on problem drug use and reviewed the evidence base, both literature and data, underpinning the Strategy. One of the key findings is that the narrower focus in the UK on most significant harms may be useful, but also carries risks and drawbacks. In addition, we find that the Strategy draws on robust evidence in the area of drug treatment and drug-related crime; however, other topics would benefit from further context or detail, and in places it is difficult to relate the evidence base to implications for intervention and delivery of services.

Anti-inflammatory coupled anti-angiogenic airway stent effectively suppresses tracheal in-stents restenosis.

J Nanobiotechnology

January 2025

Department of Interventional Radiology, Key Laboratory of Interventional Radiology of Henan Province, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, 450001, China.

Excessive vascularization during tracheal in-stent restenosis (TISR) is a significant but frequently overlooked issue. We developed an anti-inflammatory coupled anti-angiogenic airway stent (PAGL) incorporating anlotinib hydrochloride and silver nanoparticles using advanced electrospinning technology. PAGL exhibited hydrophobic surface properties, exceptional mechanical strength, and appropriate drug-release kinetics.

One of the biggest public health problems globally is that of iron deficiency anemia. The present research aimed to determine the effect of prebiotics along with iron fortification on iron biomarkers in female anemic rats as some evidence suggests that prebiotics convert increase the solubility of iron, thereby enhancing its absorption. A total of 126 Sprague Dawley rats were fed with sixteen different types of fortified feed containing prebiotics (Inulin + Galacto Oligosaccharides) and Iron Fortificants (Sodium Ferric Ethylenediaminetetraacetate + Ferrous Sulphate).

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) has a high mortality and morbidity rate and seriously jeopardizes human life. Chemicals and chemotherapeutic agents have been experiencing problems such as side effects and drug resistance in the treatment of HCC, which cannot meet the needs of clinical treatment. Therefore, finding novel low-toxicity and high-efficiency anti-hepatocellular carcinoma drugs and exploring their mechanisms of action have become the current problems to be solved in the treatment of HCC.

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and consensus-based recommendations (CBRs) require considerable effort, collaboration, and time-all within the constraints of finite resources. Professional societies, such as the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), must prioritize what topics and questions to address. Implementing evidence-based care remains a crucial challenge in clinical practice.
