Published: February 2017

The S redox intermediate of the oxygen-evolving complex in photosystem II is present as two spin isomers. The S = 1/2 isomer gives rise to a multiline electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal at g = 2.0, whereas the S = 5/2 isomer exhibits a broad EPR signal at g = 4.1. The electronic structures of these isomers are known, but their role in the catalytic cycle of water oxidation remains unclear. We show that formation of the S = 1/2 state from the S = 5/2 state is exergonic at temperatures above 160 K. However, the S = 1/2 isomer decays to S more slowly than the S = 5/2 isomer. These differences support the hypotheses that the S state is formed via the S state S = 5/2 isomer and that the stabilized S state S = 1/2 isomer plays a role in minimizing SQ decay under light-limiting conditions.

In this study, we investigated the [3+2] cycloaddition reaction of CFCN (TFAN) with nitrilimine (NI) to produce 1,2,4-triazole and compared the resulting isomers. We determined the preferred reaction pathway by examining the electrophilic and nucleophilic properties of the reaction substrates, performing thermodynamic calculations for the individual pathways, and comparing them with the experimental results.

The reaction between 1,3-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazolylmethyl)hexahydropyrimidine L and Mo(CO) in CHCN at 130 °C afforded a binuclear Mo(0) complex 1 containing a new macrocycle formed upon C-N bond cleavage in L in good yield. Conversely, a clean reaction takes place between L and [Mo(CO)(COD)] in THF at 60 °C to give a new metalloligand complex [Mo(CO)(κ-,-L)] 2 containing a spectator pyrazole arm in 83% yield. Their structures were determined by X-ray diffraction methods, and a plausible mechanism is proposed for the C-N bond cleavage leading to complex 1.

Study on Preparation Process of Anticoagulant BAY2433334.

Molecules

December 2024

Chengdu Shibeikang Biomedical Technlogy Co., Ltd., 26-1-2, No.2 Tianyu Road, Chendu Gaoxin West District, Chengdu 611700, China.

A new process route suitable for the industrial production of BAY2433334 has been developed in this paper, which avoids the patent limitations of the originator company of BAY2433334 to the preparation of BAY2433334. BAY2433334 is obtained from (2)-2-aminobutyric acid by esterification, diazotization, condensation reactions, deacetyl deprotection, activation reactions, and Mitsunobu reactions. This method is simple to operate, and the raw materials are inexpensive and readily available.

The unique fuel characteristics of butanol and the possibility of its microbial production make it one of the most desirable environmentally friendly substitutes for petroleum fuels. However, the highly toxic nature of 1-butanol to the bacterial strains makes it unprofitable for commercial production. By comparison, 2-butanol has similar fuel qualities, and despite the difficulties in its microbial synthesis, it holds promise because it may be less toxic.

Determination of Free Fatty Acids in Breast Milk Reveals the Presence of Hydroxypalmitic and Stearic Acids.

Biomolecules

December 2024

Laboratory of Chemistry, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, Agricultural University of Athens, Iera Odos 75, 11855 Athens, Greece.

Breast milk is a rich source of fatty acids (FAs) while being irreplaceable for the health and development of an infant. Herein, we present a fast and simple method for the direct detection and quantification of 37 free FAs (FFAs) in breast milk samples, avoiding any derivatization step, and a study on the % variation of FA contents in samples collected from the same mother within five consecutive days. The average breakdown of FAs was 60.
