The characterization of fractures is of vital importance for studies in many industries. In the present work, we used terahertz reflection measurements to identify simulated gaps of different widths that resemble fractures. The time interval between pulses (Δt) was proportional to the distance between the interfaces. In addition, fast Fourier transform (FFT) corresponding to the waveforms was also employed to distinguish the gaps. The widths in frequency were found to be inversely proportional to that of the gaps. In general, both terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) and terahertz frequency-domain spectroscopy (THz-FDS) can achieve the measurement of the gaps of micro size.

Background: Cryoballoon ablation has been widely performed in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). In some challenging pulmonary veins (PVs), the procedure requires additional touch-up applications against the residual conduction gaps. It implies that there could exist difficult sites to cover with standard cryoballoon applications (CBAs), resulting in resistant conduction gaps (RCGs).

Objectives: To explore the neuroprotective mechanism of electroacupuncture at the acupoints and in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury.
Methods: Forty-eight male SD rats were equally randomized into sham operation group, cerebral IR model group, acupoint electroacupuncture group and non-acupoint acupuncture group. In the latter 3 groups, cerebral focal ischemic injury was induced using the Longa method; in the two electroacupuncture groups, electroacupuncture was performed either at the acupoints and or at non-acupoint sites for 7 days.

In order to disintegrate nuclear fuel rods in the grid connection structure, a 10 kW fiber laser was used to cut a stainless steel simulation component with four layers of 3 mm thick plates and 12 mm gaps. The slit width is regarded as an important indicator to evaluate the cutting quality of the four-layer stainless steel plate. The results showed that good laser cutting quality can be successfully achieved under the proper process parameters.

Introduction: The suitability of high-power short-duration (HPSD) cavo-tricuspid isthmus ablation (CTI-Abl) for electrophysiology (EP) trainees, as well as the underlying mechanisms of its efficacy, remain unknown. The aim of this study was to clarify the efficacy and safety of HPSD CTI-Abl performed by EP trainees and assess lesion characteristics between HPSD and moderate-power long duration (MPLD) ablations.
Methods: Study 1: CTI-Abl was performed by first- to fourth-year EP trainees in consecutive 113 patients (67 ± 11 years, 27.
