This study investigates the effect of ultrasound on metastable zone width (MSZW) during crystallization of l-phenylalanine from aqueous solution. The solubility of l-phenylalanine in water was measured gravimetrically in the temperature range of 293.15-333.15K. The MSZW was measured by conventional polythermal method for four different cooling rates at five different saturation temperatures in absence and presence of ultrasound. The MSZW increased with increase in cooling rates and decreased with increase in saturation temperature. The application of ultrasound considerably reduced the MSZW for all the experiments. The obtained MSZW data are analysed using four different approaches to calculate various nucleation parameters. In presence of ultrasound, the apparent nucleation order decreased and nucleation rate constant increased significantly.

Understanding the dynamic response of granular shear zones under cyclic loading is fundamental to elucidating the mechanisms triggering earthquake-induced landslides, with implications for broader fields such as seismology and granular physics. Existing prediction methods struggle to accurately predict many experimental and in situ landslide observations due to inadequate consideration of the underlying physical mechanisms. The mechanisms that influence landslide dynamic triggering, a transition from static (or extremely slow creeping) to rapid runout, remain elusive.

Development of cocrystals through crystal engineering is a viable strategy to formulate poorly water-soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients as stable crystalline solid forms with enhanced bioavailability. This study presents a controlled cocrystallization process by cooling for the 1:1 cocrystal of Ketoconazole, an antifungal class II drug with the Fumaric acid coformer. This was successfully set up following the meta-stable zone width determination in acetone-water 4:6 (/) and pure ethanol.

Knitted fabrics are metamaterials with remarkable mechanical properties, such as extreme deformability and multiple history-dependent rest shapes. This Letter shows that those properties may stem from a continuous set of metastable states for a fabric free of external forces. This is evidenced through experiments, numerical simulations, and analytical developments.
