In this paper we investigate the feasibility of using a cost-effective fabrication method based on sandblasting, chemical etching and spray coating processes, to render common surfaces to be non-wettable by Galinstan®. Although Galinstan® is a non-toxic liquid metal alternative to mercury, the viscoelastic and extremely wetting characteristics of Galinstan® have been the major bottleneck limiting the wide applicability of the gallium-based liquid metal. This paper tries to accomplish non-wettability to Galinstan® by combining surface texture and chemistry with the unique property of Galinstan®, that is, its high surface tension and yield strength that prevent the penetration of the liquid metal into surface asperities. Fabricated surfaces resemble traditional superhydrophobic (water-repellent) surfaces, and exhibit a superior non-wettability to Galinstan® as quantified by high static and dynamic contact angles, small hysteresis, as well as impact resistance. Reported fabrication method based on sandblasting, etching and spray coating is easily applicable to various surfaces ranging from metals, ceramics, to plastics and is scalable to large surfaces.

Catalyst design plays a critical role in ensuring sustainable and effective energy conversion. Electrocatalytic materials need to be able to control active sites and introduce defects in both acidic and alkaline electrolytes. Furthermore, producing efficient catalysts with a distinct surface structure advances our comprehension of the mechanism.

Eutectogels are recently emerged as promising alternatives to hydrogels owing to their good environmental stability derived from deep eutectic solvents (DES). However, construction of competent eutectogels with both high conductivity and mechanical toughness is still difficult to achieve yet highly demanded. In this work, new LMNP-PEDOT-CMC-AA (LPCA) eutectogels are prepared using acrylic acid (AA) and carboxymethylcellulose sodium (CMC) as polymeric networks, liquid metal nanoparticle-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (LMNP-PEDOT) are added as multifunctional soft fillers.

In the present study, metal-organic frameworks, MIL-101(Fe) and MIL-53(Al), were synthesized under solvothermal conditions and were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray energy diffraction spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The synthesized metal-organic frameworks were utilized for the purpose of dispersive micro-solid phase extraction of sorafenib in both human plasma and wastewater, which was subsequently followed by high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet determination. Parameters affecting extraction efficacy including adsorbent amount, ionic strength, pH, type of elution solvent, adsorption and desorption time were optimized.

With the rapid development of graphene industry, low-cost sustainable synthesis of monolayer graphene oxide (GO) has become more and more important for many applications such as water desalination, thermal management, energy storage and functional composites. Compared to the conventional chemical oxidation methods, water electrolytic oxidation of graphite-intercalation-compound (GIC) shows significant advantages in environmental-friendliness, safety and efficiency, but suffers from non-uniform oxidation, typically ~50 wt.% yield with ~50% monolayers.

Photo-oxidation of methane (CH) using hydrogen peroxide (HO) synthesized in situ from air and water under sunlight offers an attractive route for producing green methanol while storing intermittent solar energy. However, in commonly used aqueous-phase systems, photocatalysis efficiency is severely limited due to the ultralow availability of CH gas and HO intermediate at the flooded interface. Here, we report an atomically modified metal-organic framework (MOF) membrane nanoreactor that promotes direct CH photo-oxidation to methanol at the gas-solid interface in a reticular open framework.
