A new charge-neutral Ru(iii) complex RuL(pic) (1) (H3L = 3,6-di-tert-butyl-9H-carbazole-1,8-dicarboxylic acid, pic = 4-picoline) was synthesized and fully characterized. This complex promoted chemical and photochemical water oxidation efficiently with turnover frequencies of 0.28 s and 5 min, respectively. In particular, for photochemical water oxidation, complex 1 showed excellent stability and good activity. The X-ray crystal structure, electrochemical results, and the detection of the Ru-OH intermediate by high-resolution mass spectrometry revealed that complex 1 exchanged its 4-picoline ligand with water at the Ru state to form the authentic water oxidation catalyst. The kinetics studies suggested a reaction mechanism involving nucleophilic attack by a water molecule.

The aim of the present work is to investigate the photocatalytic degradation of propyl paraben (propyl para-hydroxybenzoate, PrP) using CuO-ZnO-NPs photocatalyst followed by the identification of the oxidation by-products. The CuO-ZnO-NPs material, synthesized using a green chemistry approach, was used as a photocatalyst for the removal of PrP. The nanoparticles were characterized by XRD, XRF, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, ATG/DTG, FTIR, SEM-EDX, BET and FRX techniques.

Exposure to vanadium (V) occurs through the ingestion of contaminated water, polluted soil, V-containing foods and medications, and the toxicity and absorption during the small intestine phase after oral ingestion play crucial roles in the ultimate health hazards posed by V. In this study, the human colon adenocarcinoma (Caco-2) cells were selected as an intestinal absorption model to investigate the uptake and cytotoxicity of vanadyl sulfate (VOSO) and sodium orthovanadate (NaVO). Our results confirmed the cytotoxic effects of V(IV) and V(V) and revealed a greater toxicity of V(IV) than V(V) towards Caco-2 cells.

The toughening coix seed oil (CSO) high internal phase Pickering emulsion (CSO-HIPES) and gel (CSO-HIPESG) comprised of carrageenan (CR)/super-deamidated-gluten (SDG) micro-particles (CR/SDG) were investigated via acid-heat induction. Results showed polysaccharide natural deep eutectic solvent (P-NADES) by citric acid-glucose-carrageenan ((CGCR), molar ratio at 1:1:0.035) was the crucial for the preparation of SDG (deamidation degree, 99.

Intravascular hemolysis releases hemoglobin (Hb) from red blood cells under specific conditions, yet the effect of hemolysis in aquaculture systems remain poorly understood. In this study, a continuous hemolysis model for grass carp was established by injection of phenylhydrazine (PHZ) to investigate the mechanistic impacts of sustained hemolysis. PHZ-induced hemolysis altered liver color, and subsequent hematoxylin and eosin staining revealed substantial Hb accumulation in the head kidney, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration and vacuolization in liver tissue.
