Integrated optical devices able to control light-matter interactions on the nanoscale have attracted the attention of the scientific community in recent years. However, most of these devices are based on silicon waveguides, limiting their use for telecommunication wavelengths. In this contribution, we propose an integrated device that operates with light in the visible spectrum. The proposed device is a hybrid structure consisting of a high-refractive-index layer placed on top of an ion-exchanged glass waveguide. We demonstrate that this hybrid structure serves as an efficient light coupler for the excitation of nanoemitters. The numerical and experimental results show that the device can enhance the electromagnetic field confinement up to 11 times, allowing a higher photoluminescence signal from nanocrystals placed on its surface. The designed device opens new perspectives in the generation of new optical devices suitable for quantum information or for optical sensing.

Both stability and multi-level switching are crucial performance aspects for resistive random-access memory (RRAM), each playing a significant role in improving overall device performance. In this study, we successfully integrate these two features into a single RRAM configuration by embedding Ag-nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) into the TiN/Ta2O5/ITO structure. The device exhibits substantially lower switching voltages, a larger switching ratio, and multi-level switching phenomena compared to many other nanoparticle-embedded devices.

Decoupling Carrier Dynamics and Energy Transport in Ultrafast Near-Field Nanoscopy.

Nano Lett

Laser Thermal Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, California 94720, United States.

Ultrafast near-field optical nanoscopy has emerged as a powerful platform to characterize low-dimensional materials. While analytical and numerical models have been established to account for photoexcited carrier dynamics, quantitative evaluation of the associated pulsed laser heating remains elusive. Here, we decouple the photocarrier density and temperature increase in near-field nanoscopy by integrating the two-temperature model (TTM) with finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations.

Ultrashort laser pulses are extensively used for efficient manipulation of interfacial spin injection in two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures. However, physical processes accompanying the photoinduced spin transfer dynamics on the all-semiconductor ferromagnetic vdW heterostructure remain largely unexplored. Here, we present a computational investigation of the femtosecond laser pulse induced purely electron-mediated spin transfer dynamics at a time scale of less than 50 fs in a vdW heterostructure.

Van der Waals electrode integration is a promising strategy to create nearly perfect interfaces between metals and 2D materials, with advantages such as eliminating Fermi-level pinning and reducing contact resistance. However, the lack of a simple, generalizable pick-and-place transfer technology has greatly hampered the wide use of this technique. We demonstrate the pick-and-place transfer of prefabricated electrodes from reusable polished hydrogenated diamond substrates without the use of any sacrificial layers due to the inherent low-energy and dangling-bond-free nature of the hydrogenated diamond surface.
