Unlabelled: Increased lupus nephritis has been reported in Pacific Island and Maori populations. Previous studies suggest ethnic variation in response to immunosuppression treatment; however this has not been assessed in Pacific Island and Maori cohorts. This retrospective study reviewed class 3, 4 and 5 lupus nephritis outcomes and response to induction immunosuppression over a 10-year period in a New Zealand multi-ethnic cohort with high Pacific Island representation. This included 49 renal biopsies in 41 patients; by ethnicity Pacific Island 53.7%, Asian 31.7%, Caucasian 12.2%, and New Zealand Maori 2.4%. There were 11 class 3, 24 class 4 and 17 class 5 either alone or in combination with class 3/4. There were no statistically significant differences in renal function or proteinuria between ethnic groups at baseline. Pacific Island class 3/4 showed similar rates of renal remission with intravenous cyclophosphamide (6/8) and mycophenolate (4/7) induction treatment; results were comparable to the overall study group. There were no deaths or permanent dialysis requirements in the first six months of treatment, and no increased risk of adverse outcomes when stratified by ethnicity. Five lupus nephritis relapses occurred during maintenance treatment and there was no apparent ethnicity bias.
Conclusion: Pacific Island people disproportionately present with increased lupus nephritis; and had comparable renal remission rates with intravenous cyclophosphamide and oral mycophenolate which were similar to the whole study cohort.

Background And Objectives: Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) play an important role in nutrition labeling and nutrition and health claims based on scientific data. This study, with a global perspective, reviewed recent trends in NRVs for adults and their establishment for infants and toddlers.
Methods And Study Design: We searched for laws and regulations on official government websites for nutrition labeling in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Japan, the Codex Committee, and the European Union.

Slab windows represent regions within the mantle that are largely devoid of slab material, facilitating direct communication between the mantle above and below the subducting slab. This unprecedented interaction disrupts the conventional material-energy exchange mechanisms between the subducted slab and mantle wedge, giving rise to anomalous heat flow, distinct magmatism, metamorphism, and geophysical features. Geochemical analyses of samples collected from the southern margin of the Parece-Vela Basin have illuminated the magmatic processes associated with a slab window.

Background And Aims: Despite accelerating interest in island evolution, the general evolutionary trajectories of island flowers remain poorly understood. In particular the island rule, which posits that small organisms become larger and large organisms to become smaller after island colonization, while tested in various plant traits, has never been tested in flower size. Here, we provide the first test for the island rule in flower size for animal- and wind-pollinated flowers, and the first evidence for generalized in-situ evolution of flower size on islands.

The Asian long-horned tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis Neumann, 1901, is the competent vector for severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV). Haemaphysalis longicornis originated mainly in eastern Asia and invaded many areas like Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific islands, and was recently introduced to eastern parts of the USA. This species is characterized by high adaptability to a wide range of temperatures and can reproduce parthenogenically under stressful conditions.
