Study Design: Case report.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate whether a new custom-made magnetic device might enable a patient affected with quadriplegia to self-feed.
Setting: Day Hospital of the Unipolar Spinal Unit, CTO Hospital, Turin, Italy.
Methods: Three magnets were affixed to a custom-made device and to a specially modified cutlery and a bottle of water.
Results: The magnetic device permitted the patient to feed himself autonomously, using both a knife and a fork to eat and a bottle of water to drink.
Conclusion: Such a magnetic device might be useful for self-feeding in a patient with quadriplegia.

Multiple myeloma is a hematologic malignancy characterized by the proliferation of abnormal plasma cells in the bone marrow. Despite therapeutic advancements, there remains a critical need for reliable, noninvasive methods to monitor multiple myeloma. Circulating plasma cells (CPCs) in peripheral blood are robust and independent prognostic markers, but their detection is challenging due to their low abundance.

The functional properties of tetraaryl compounds, M(aryl) (M = transition metal or group 14 element), are dictated not only by their common tetrahedral geometry but also by their central atom. The identity of this atom may serve to modulate the reactivity, electrochemical, magnetic, and optical behavior of the molecular species, or of extended materials built from appropriate tetraaryl building blocks, but this has not yet been systematically evaluated. Toward this goal, here we probe the influence of Os(IV), C, and Si central atoms on the spectroelectrochemical properties of a series of redox-active tetra(ferrocenylaryl) complexes.

Purpose: Treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD) in the region below the knee (BTK) is dissatisfying as failure of treated target lesions (TLF) is frequent and diagnostic imaging is often challenging. In the BTK-region metallic drug-eluting stents (mDES) yielded best results concerning primary patency (PP), but also annihilate signal in magnetic resonance angiography (MR-A). A recently introduced non-metallic drug eluting bioresorbable Tyrocore® vascular scaffold (deBVS), that offers an option for re-treatment of lesions due to its full degradation within 3-4 years after placement, was investigated with respect to its compatibility with MR-A to unimpededly depict previously treated target lesions.

Materials exhibiting topological transport properties, such as a large topological Hall resistivity, are crucial for next-generation spintronic devices. Here, we report large topological Hall resistivities in epitaxial supermalloy (NiFeMo) thin films with [100] and [111] orientations grown on single-crystal MgO (100) and AlO (0001) substrates, respectively. While X-ray reciprocal maps confirmed the epitaxial growth of the films, X-ray stress analyses revealed large residual strains in the films, inducing tetragonal distortions of the cubic NiFeMo unit cells.
